This is a question President Obama has taken to asking some of his visitors to the White House. In a bureaucratic world awash in abbreviations and acronyms, this one in particular seems to amuse him.
Mr. Obama, of course, is Potus (president of the United States). Michelle Obama is Flotus (first lady of the United States). And the title of Rotus (receptionist of the United States) is worn by Darienne M. Page.
“This is the receptionist of the entire United States,” Mr. Obama said, introducing
News: Federal Contractors Not Taking Necessary Steps to Employ Veterans, Say Veterans Groups
Washington, D.C. - On Thursday, May 14, 2009, Economic Opportunity Subcommittee Chairwoman Stephanie Herseth Sandlin (D-SD) conducted a hearing to review the current state of federal contractor compliance. The hearing was called in response to concerns raised by veterans regarding federal contractors that do not comply with current regulations.
“These reports are specifically troubling considering the increased number of service members returning to the civilian workforce,” said Chairwoman Herseth Sandlin. “It is also disturbing when I hear that disabled veteran hiring practices are inadequate coupled with the lack of effort by contractors to employ disabled veterans.”
Hearing witnesses discussed current state and federal contractor compliance with the Vietnam Veterans’ Readjustment Assistance Act of 1974 and Section 4212 of Title 38. These laws ban discrimination and require federal contractors and subcontractors to ensure that all veterans and disabled veterans have equal opportunity in the work place.

Donald Guter says three law schools asked if he wanted to be a dean in the months after he lost his job as head of Duquesne University's law school in December.
The retired rear admiral and former chief of the Navy JAG Corps rejected each, until a fourth school persuaded him to say yes. South Texas College of Law in Houston announced Guter, 60, as its president and dean on Monday. He will assume his new position on Aug. 1, according to the school's Web site.
"The fact is, I wasn't interested in another school with the same hierarchy," Guter said.
Unlike Duquesne — a Catholic school that operates under a traditional structure of a president, provost and deans — South Texas College of Law is an independent, stand-alone law school.
