The Nine Stages of Civilization – We’re Entering the Eighth, Dependence

The Commerce Claws.

The United States is now firmly entering  the eighth stage of all civilizations ~

Dependence with only Bondage ahead of it. Apathy has allowed our constitution to be shredded in stage seven which led to our current state of Dependence on the state ~ but soon an IRS monitored Obamacare program of ‘Shared responsibility, or else’ will usher in the Orwellian ninth stage of militarized Bondage:

by Allen L Roland

Last year I wrote that the average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been two hundred years and that these nations have progressed through a nine stage sequence: From bondage to spiritual faith; from spiritual faith to great courage; from courage to liberty; from liberty to abundance; from abundance to selfishness; from selfishness to complacency; from complacence to apathy; from apathy to dependence; from dependency back again into bondage.

As Ramsey Clark, former U.S. Attorney General, once correctly said”We’re not a democracy. It’s a terrible misunderstanding and a slander to the idea of democracy to call us that. In reality, we’re a plutocracy: a government by the wealthy.”

In our present Plutocracy, we made the transition last year from complacency to national apathy ~ but with the passage and implementation of Obamacare, along with an increasingly militarized surveillance state, we have now entered stage eight, Dependence on the state ~ which will soon be followed with militarized Bondage by the state.

John Adams once correctly defined the perils of dependence ~ The nature of the encroachment upon American constitution is such, as to grow every day more and more encroaching. Like a cancer; it eats faster and faster every hour. The revenue creates pensioners, and the pensioners urge for more revenue. The people grow less steady, spirited and virtuous, the seekers more numerous and more corrupt, and every day increases the circles of their dependents and expectants, until virtue, integrity, public spirit, simplicity and frugality become the objects of ridicule and scorn, and vanity, luxury, foppery, selfishness, meanness, and downright venality swallow up the whole of society.

Obamacare or ‘shared-responsibility or else’  is the most visible evidence of the plutocracy’s leveraged buyout of Democracy as we officially enter stage eight of our rapidly crumbling civilization or empire ~ and no one nails this truth better than Bill Moyers. 5 Minute video

Obamacare is a blatant but sad joke played on an apathetic American public who are already becoming conditioned for dependence by the plutocracy. The hypocrisy of Obamacare in a single sentence. 2 minute video

Part and parcel of this shift to Dependence is a growing surveillance and police state ~ as clearly evidenced in the recent lockdown of Boston. Henry Giroux noted this some point in his provocative recent article in AlterNet ~ Did the Authorities’ lockdown of Boston Give us a Taste of The Police State Culture to Come ?

Excerpt:  “Militarism thrives on the mass produced culture of fear and the spectacle of violence.  It abhors dissent and flourishes in an ever expanding web of secrecy. Both Bush and Obama have used the cult of secrecy and the threat of punishment to silence whistleblowers, allow those who have committed torture under the government direction to go free, and refused those who have been “interrogated” illegally to take their case to the courts.”

Giroux correctly concludes that the American public at large is so immersed in fear and cruelty that they are more than willing to surrender their rights at the first whiff of danger ~ and that, I would add, is the most important step in the process of moving from Dependence to a militarized state of Bondage ~ the exploitation of fear and danger for the benefit of the state or plutocracy.

Are you aware that thousands of US police including the FBI director and NYC Chief of Police have been getting “law enforcement training” from Israel?   What are they learning from the very same thugs who brutalize Palestinians daily? Very simply, that “All civilians are probable criminals and should be treated that way.”

Here is an 8 minute RT Video interview with Max Blumenthal in 2011 on the intentional militarization of the police force ~ which has now become painfully obvious in the recent Boston Bombings.

Huxley correctly predicted in Brave New World that the truth would eventually be drowned in a sea of irrelevance ~ which is precisely the case now as we transition from Apathy to Dependence.

Truth talker Chris Hedges describes the symptoms of the rapidly approaching  last stage of Bondage ~ for it will indeed be marked by  The Death of Truth   The world has been turned upside down. The pestilence of corporate totalitarianism is spreading rapidly over the earth. The criminals have seized power. It is not, in the end, simply Assange or Manning they want. It is all who dare to defy the official narrative, to expose the big lie of the global corporate state. The persecution of Assange and Manning is the harbinger of what is to come, the rise of a bitter world where criminals in Brooks Brothers suits and gangsters in beribboned military uniforms ~ propped up by a vast internal and external security apparatus, a compliant press and a morally bankrupt political elite ~ monitor and crush those who dissent. Writers, artists, actors, journalists, scientists, intellectuals and workers will be forced to obey or thrown into bondage. I fear for Julian Assange. I fear for Bradley Manning. I fear for us all

As our civilization or empire collapses from within ~ all citizens eventually are seen as potential terrorists and the local police role changes from protecting the public to protecting the plutocracy.

Seen through clearer eyes ~ as Pepe Escobar explains ~ the recent Boston bombings police reaction was a prelude to Martial Law ~ ” What the day-long delay in Dzhokhar’s arrest indeed made possible was to turn Watertown into a monster dry run for urban martial laweuphemized as ”lockdown” – in a very near future. As total militarization of civilian life goes – featuring, for instance, Homeland Security running amok with hundreds of armored vehicles – this was a major success. Meanwhile, on the ”legal” front, the White House and the Justice Department are firmly on track to finally suppress the Miranda warning; that went into effect already two years ago, when an Obama secret executive order ruled the Miranda warning would not apply to suspected terrorists.” See article

The day is fast approaching when speaking the truth will be seen as an act of terrorism, and we will finally realize that we have become totally dependent on the state, that our cherished individual freedoms were trashed in that process and that it was all done in the glorious name of national security.

So long as the people do not care to exercise their freedom, those who wish to tyrannize will do so; for tyrants are active and ardent, and will devote themselves in the name of any number of gods, religious and otherwise, to put shackles upon sleeping men” : Voltaire.

Excerpts of segments of what Vaclav Havel, a dissident from Czechoslovakia wrote; “This system serves people only to the extent necessary to ensure that people will serve it. Anything beyond this, that is to their predetermined roles, is regarded by the system as an attack upon itself.”
“Because the regime is captive to its own lies, it must falsify everything. It falsifies the past. It falsifies the present, and its falsifies the future. It falsifies statistics. it pretends not to possess an omnipotent and unprincipled police apparatus. It pretends to respect human rights. It pretends to persecute on one. It pretends to fear nothing. It pretends to pretend nothing.
Individuals need not believe all these mystifications, but they must behave as though they did or they must at least tolerate them in silence or get along well with those who work work with them. For this
reason, however, they must live within a lie. They need not to accept the lie. It is enough for them to have accepted their life with it and in it.” Today, this applies to the USA.
When governments adhere to only their purpose, they do not intrude into people’s lives people can find the elements within our Constitution.
When governments handle the business necessary to run the country, and leave the rest to the people, all will be well. Unrest within will resolve itself accordingly to the police forces of the respective jurisdictions. Very little activity of the public requires the federal government’s intrusion, and involvement.
The more any government forces itself upon its people, and finds a reason for it to expand its presence, the more it must validate itself and show more dominance.
Very similar to the ATF attempting to flex its muscle in Waco. If they wanted Koresh, they knew where he was every Wednesday in Waco. Local officials did not think it important to bother with him, so why the federal obsession? To validate their presence and purpose. All while the people stood and watched thee horror on TV.
People governing themselves is how any system is supposed to work. Whether honest or not, depends upon the vigilance of the people. Corrupt, lying, deceitful governments diminish human rights, and limit human abilities, and remove freedoms. They are oppressive and self-serving. They are evil and do evil acts. They welcome public apathy.
Honest people make and keep governments honest and generous. They promote human growth, education, advancement and knowledge. They despise complacency and dependency.
Perhaps it is unavoidable where people blindly trust their elected public servants. They do so out of complacency. That permits the trusted to decide and effect changes on their own.
Apathy is permissive and is why the USA is facing bondage.
Citizens have the power to effect change to affect their government approach to conducting their business. If the change is not satisfactory, they can establish a new, responsive government, or succumb to the current government preparing to enslave them either in bondage or a plastic coffin. In the Declaration of Independence, as simple little document that gives our new world orderists spasms. It would stop them in their tracks if we would use it.
People speaking out against the government should be viewed as a breath of fresh air to a population who has failed to preserve, protect and defend itself against this new world order form of aggression. For a president to have even introduced it is treason and traitorous in its finest hour. 23 years ago, this was done and, in our complacency stage, we sat and ignored it.
To quote one of JFK’s entries in his diary: “Wars will exist until that distant day when the conscientious objector enjoys the same reputation and prestige that the warrior does today.” perhaps if we would do our patriotic duty and hold vigilance on the people we elect and take an active role in what they do, voice our opinions, and demand some answers, the stages of civilization could be avoided.
Perhaps I am naive but the solutions are before us, if we would just get off our butts and get involved.
We will have to do something and soon. Otherwise, we submit our history, our traditions, our culture, our freedoms, our ancestors’ sacrifices, and our country to the Bush family offering called new world order.
which begins with bondage, and/or death. Great article. Nothing but thought provoking and great.
We Americans had better awaken to our own planned and potential demise!. Thank you. Honest people in governments based actually on the premise, “In God We trust,” could eliminate human suffering, and human decay. all thus bitterness and talk of coffins and wars, terrorism and evil is as expendable as our daily trash is “We the People…” would rise above their petty differences and take action.

Your nine stages begins at bondage, which presupposes that man begins in bondage. In fact, man began in the garden with sovereignty granted by God. See this discussion of the “Cycle of Freedom” for a much more optimistic look at the same list, as well as a potential solution to the current situation. The author offers examples of history where the last phases of the cycle (as presented here) were skipped, and the civilization skipped the bondage phase.

Detlef ~ Pepe’s quote was a facetious comment ~ ” As total militarization of civilian life goes – featuring, for instance, Homeland Security running amok with hundreds of armored vehicles – this was a major success.” meant to be an example of urban martial law run amok . Of course, legally it was anything but with the stripping of the Miranda warning under the context that these US citizen suspects were terrorists. An ominous step towards Bondage ~

Mr. Roland, I’m not an american citizen, but I want to suggest some concrete things that could be done right there in Watertown to get the truth out:

Go to the people of Watertown with a group of friendly and nice people and ask them directly, what they thought and felt when they were subjected to this great “lock down experiment”.

Before you or others assume that this lockdown was a complete success, you should first look at the answers given to you by the people. Much too much opinions without any proof about the thoughts and feelings of the subjected people have been publized. I might wonder, why!

In times like these, when things get tough, no one should surrender without any real reason. Your article has many good thoughts and especially the first clip is revealing in it’s clearness and directness, but much too much talk about fear, fear and once again fear.

Beeing realistic does not imply do be fearful, it does imply to be prepared and rational for possible things to come and it needs steadfast people, who are able to react in an organized way as one minimal precondition to turn the tide and bring those criminal thugs to justice.
