General Flynn spills beans on decision to let ISIS evolve – DIA report revisited

US ex-intelligence chief on ISIS rise: It was ‘a willful Washington decision’

… from  Russia Today,  Moscow

[ Editor’s note: Here is a classic from August 2015. My hat goes off to those who have the budgets and the staff to do the grunt work on getting these FOIA gems revealed. As we have stated many times, our sources were giving us a steady supply of concerns over the “chain of command” involvement or non-involvement in our wide scale use of military terrorist formations as a cheap destabilization, regime change tool.

Reports of firewalls being set up to block the usual auditing required to monitor military spending, even on covert activities, were the first seeds that we got. Even in top secret operations the bean counters are riding herd on funds disappearing or, as it seems in this case, being converted to uses that could not be tracked.

Above board things don’t require such an institutionalized smokescreen being set up to hide accountability. It takes very high up people to change normal auditing procedures like this, so if there were Congressional hearings at some point, there was not a breadcrumb trail to whom the puppet masters are. But the list of suspects is a short one.

So we salute retired General Flynn for coming out of the closet on this. There are many more who know more about how this house of horrors evolved, and when an ex-DIA director speaks out, it provides cover for more to do so. We have to remember to show support for them every way we canJim W. Dean ]

The US didn’t interfere with the rise of anti-government jihadist groups in Syria that finally degenerated into Islamic State, claims the former head of America’s Defense Intelligence Agency, backing a secret 2012 memo predicting their rise.

An interview with retired Lieutenant General Michael Flynn, former head of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), given to Al Jazeera’s Mehdi Hasan, confirms earlier suspicions that Washington was monitoring jihadist groups emerging as opposition in Syria.

General Flynn dismissed Al Jazeera’s supposition that the US administration “turned a blind eye” to the DIA’s analysis. Flynn believes the US government didn’t listen to his agency on purpose.

“I think it was a decision. I think it was a willful decision,” the former DIA chief said.

The classified DIA report presented in August 2012, stated that.

“The Salafist, the Muslim Brotherhood, and AQI [Al- Qaeda in Iraq] are the major forces driving the insurgency in Syria,” being supported by “the West, Gulf countries and Turkey.”

The document recently declassified through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), analyses the situation in Syria in the summer of 2012 and predicts:

“If the situation unravels, there is the possibility of establishing a declared or undeclared Salafist principality in eastern Syria… and this is exactly what the supporting powers to the opposition want, in order to isolate the Syrian regime.”

The report warns of “dire consequences” of this scenario, because it would allow Al-Qaeda to regain its positions in Iraq and unify the jihadist Sunni forces in Iraq, Syria and the rest of the Sunnis in the Arab world against all other Muslim minorities they consider dissenters.

“ISI (the Islamic State of Iraq) could also declare an Islamic State through its union with other terrorist organizations in Iraq and Syria, which will create grave danger in regards of unifying Iraq and the protection of its territory,” the DIA report correctly predicted at the time.

Those groups eventually emerged as Islamic State (IS formerly ISIS/ISIL) and Al-Nusra Front, an Islamic group loyal to Al-Qaeda.

Unlike the US State Department, which rushed to label the declassified DIA memo as unimportant soon after its declassification, the DIA’s former head expressed full trust in the 2012 report, stressing he “paid very close attention” to this document, adding “the intelligence was very clear.”

Al Jazeera notes that Lieutenant General Michael Flynn became “the highest ranking intelligence official to go on record,” saying the US and other states, notably Turkey and the Gulf Arab states, were sponsoring Al-Qaeda-led rebels in Syria with political support and weapons in an attempt to overthrow President Bashar Assad.

When Al Jazeera’s Hasan asked Flynn why he didn’t attempt to stop the US coordinating arms transfers to Islamic extremists, the retired general said:

“I hate to say it’s not my job, but my job was to ensure the accuracy of our intelligence,” said Flynn, who also served as director of intelligence for the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) during the US hunt for Bin Laden.

With the Al-Qaeda’s notorious founder “killed in Pakistan in 2011”, the former DIA head admitting the US sponsored Al-Qaeda-associated groups a year later in Syria should come as a shock to American media outlets, such as the Daily Beast, which criticized the DIA memo as unworthy.

Author for the Levant Report, Brad Hoff says hours after he published a rebuttal to the Daily Beast article, he was contacted by a personal friend, a high level official with CIA Public Affairs, who urged Hoff to drop his comments regarding the IS issue, insisting the Daily Beast article had been “written insightfully.”

  1. The Russians were never going to sell out President Assad and the Americans should have realised this before they invaded Iraq.

The only way the US was going to get control of Syria was by using terrorists such as ISIL to try and get rid of Assad and destroy the country ripping it up into pieces and doing the same with Iraq.

The events of 9/11 were going to give the Saudis the opportunity to have a gas pipeline into Europe via Syria, Iraq and Turkey and in return it also meant that the Europeans could be used by Saudi Arabia and Israel to fight wars against countries such as Iran. Now, all is lost because the Russians are standing in the way.

  2. In August I wrote a piece here called “When Generals Go Public (Sometimes It Helps) and I think this is another example of how when Flag Officers say “Wait a second…” things can get a lot clearer. One of my foundations is Peter Senge’s The Fifth Discipline and the Learning Organization. I think a lot of our frustration here at Vets boils down to a problem with government in general and it’s ability to respond intelligently to the environment in which it operates. Senge describes this as the result of some learning deficiencies in the Fifth Discipline. In this case, I can think of two: Today’s problems come from yesterday’s solutions; the Easy Way Out Leads Back In. ISIL is a perfect example of both, and terribly disappointing. Especially since yesterday’s solutions — invading Iraq, destabilizing the middle east, letting Israel do whatever it wants to do, disbanding the Iraqi Army, etc. etc. — were ideologically driven, dumb-ass things to do.

  3. Reminds one of former NATO general Wesley Clark, who revealed the “Pentagon” plan that existed on 21 Sept 2001, ten days after 9-11. “This is a memo that describes how we’re going to take out seven countries in five years, starting with Iraq, and then Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and, finishing off, Iran.”
However, the family of mind-controllers has had time to re-twirk Clark´s brain, and he currently suggests that Americans who do not support an attack on Iran deserve to be imprisoned in concentration camps. This man´s family stems from Judaism.

  4. Mr. Dean, Ann Coulter is SMART, maybe it’s her way of coming out CLEAN about Israeli-American, too

There are (3) general categories of military people: Active Duty (Full-time Soldiers & Sailors). Reserve & Guard forces (usually work a civilian job, but can be called to full-time military duty). Veterans & Retirees __ Millions of Family Members & Friends”

  5. There has seemed to be a consensus of opinion that Bin Laden was a US asset and died of natural causes in 2001. Now we have the ex DIA chief, who of course was in the position to know, going along with the official story line. ???

  6. Although a bit too late, Flynn has the guts to come forward with some basic facts about ISIS.

The current situation in the US reminds me more and more of the scenario in “Seven days of May”. Officially and through media, a picture of a strong and decisive America is drawn. Behind the scenes, there is an open fight between the traitors and end time zealots and those patriots who were behind the Iran treaty and the pullback from destroying Syria.

The situation seems to be that a government, lead by a president who does not know oversee what he does, is totally split. The majority of the influential people inside the foreign ministry were neocon traitors from day one untill now.

The power thats coming slowly forward, are some very capable and patriotic persons from the military. To me it seems, that these people really push thing in not catastrophic directions – including the decisions made by some Senators, supporting the Iran deal.

Such a split in direction and strategy is a serious thread, which to this time many western countries face, because they are infiltrated from the top by criminals and traitors who want to bring down leading industrial countries and push for an armageddon scenario.

More and more, peace by peace, they are already failing, but this is one of the most critical situations in history and we should be awary of it.

  7. Again, congats and thanks galore to LT. General Flynn for not being mind controlled and coming forward . To heck with the Zionist nay knockers. Many more should rock the boat because this rouge group of profiteering maniacs need to be exposed and questioned and prosecuted. Exploration could go back along way to many deeds, 9-11-01 included. NDAA ,DHS, Patriot Act etc. and all the dual citizens; you know who you are. VT hits another home run!
