R.I.P / Edgar Mitchell – Naval Aviator, Astronaut and Visionary Explorer

edgar mitchellAs a former high altitude Navy interceptor, I have felt and glimpsed the sanctity of high flight as well its effect on my own sense of global consciousness as well as in my heart centered  work. Edgar Mitchell also fully felt a desire to explore inner space and the need for a people oriented global consciousness, while viewing our planet on the moon. In 1998, Mitchell’s Institute of Noetic Sciences along with Common Boundary chose my 1998 doctoral dissertation on the Unified Field   as one of the four leading entries nationwide, in the 1998 Common Boundary/ Institute of Noetic Sciences Thesis and Dissertation Award for work that best integrates spirituality and psychology ~ and it was additionally cited for its originality and relevance for practicing psycho-spiritual therapists. It remains to this day the foundation for my ongoing heart centered consultations and spiritual coaching: Allen L Roland, PhD

“You develop an instant global consciousness, a people orientation, an intense dissatisfaction with the state of the world, and a compulsion to do something about it. From out there on the moon, international politics look so petty. You want to grab a politician by the scruff of the neck and drag him a quarter of a million miles out and say, ‘Look at that, you son of a bitch.”  ~ Edgar D. Mitchell

Cassandra Vieten, PhD, and President and CEO of the Institute of Noetic Sciences eulogized Mitchell’s death recently with these moving words on February 5th;

Most people know Edgar Mitchell best as an Apollo 14 astronaut and sixth person to walk on the moon. A US Navy Captain, MIT-trained aeronautics engineer, recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the NASA distinguished service award, and 2005 nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize among many other honors, Edgar Mitchell was a hero in the truest sense of the word.

What fewer people know is that Edgar’s spirit of exploration extended well beyond space travel to his lifelong dedication to increasing our scientific understanding of the nature of consciousness.

Space exploration symbolized for Mitchell what it did for his nation ~ a technological triumph of historic proportions, an unprecedented demonstration of scientific achievement, and extraordinary potential for new discoveries. What Mitchell did not anticipate was a return trip from the moon that triggered something even more powerful. As he gazed at Earth floating in the vastness of space and contemplated the history and hopes of humankind on that lonely blue sphere, he was engulfed by a profound sense of universal connectedness.

I realized that the story of ourselves as told by science ~ our cosmology, our religion ~ was incomplete and likely flawed. I recognized that the Newtonian idea of separate, independent, discreet things in the universe wasn’t a fully accurate description. What was needed was a new story of who we are and what we are capable of becoming.”

That moment was an epiphany for Mitchell. As an accomplished scientist and engineer, he had grown accustomed to directing his attention to the objective world “out there.”

But the experience that came to him while hurtling through space was profound.

“My understanding of the distinct separateness and relative independence of movement of those cosmic bodies was shattered. I was overwhelmed with the sensation of physically and mentally extending out into the cosmos. The restraints and boundaries of flesh and bone fell away. I wondered if Stu and Alan [companion astronauts] were experiencing it as well … Somehow I never felt the urge to ask.”

The experience led him to a startling hypothesis: Perhaps reality is more complex, subtle, and inexorably mysterious than conventional science had led him to believe. Perhaps a deeper understanding of consciousness could lead to a new and expanded view of reality in which objective and subjective, outer and inner, are understood as complementary aspects of the miracle and mystery of being.

That realization sowed the seeds of Mitchell’s next mission. A few years later, in 1973, he founded the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS). ”  See her comments

And 15 years later in 1998, another former naval aviator, myself, ~ had completed my journey to fully surrender to love and discovered a psychic energy field of love and soul consciousness that not only existed beyond time and space but also beneath our deepest fears ~ and whose principle property was the universal urge to unite.

As a fellow Naval Aviator, I know Edgar would have fully understood the profound ramifications of hurtling through inner space and discovering a Unified Field of love and soul consciousness beneath my deepest fears ~ as I did in 1960 while flying off the USS Ranger.

See THE FINAL OPTION

Demon being launched

Excerpt:

I have had many personal experiences of the sensory sensation of being in the Unified Field of love and soul consciousness that exists not only beyond time and space but also beneath our deepest fears but this one stands out ~ for it was a matter of life and death and it became the foundation of my belief in this state of consciousness that lies beneath our deepest fears.

In the early 1960’s while I was serving as a U.S. Navy all-weather carrier pilot on the USS Ranger on the South China Sea ~ I was launched one stormy dark night in my supersonic interceptor from the forward catapult.

It was a brutal night and I saw that the launch crew chief had all he could do to remain upright on the deck. After climbing into the cockpit I brought the F3H Demon to full throttle and felt the supersonic Navy jet shake with power as it strained against the bridle. Keenly aware of sounds, everything sounded good as I did a final check of my instruments.

The launch crew leader raised his neon batons in the air and waited for my salute, which I gave. The launch crew then released the bridle which would send me hurtling into the stormy night sky at 155 mph within 3 seconds. I braced my head against the headrest and anticipated the sudden 3 G rush of acceleration. Within seconds, thousands of pounds of steam pressure drove me back into my seat and catapulted the plane into the stormy night sky.

My hands and eyes quickly swept through the cockpit as I had done hundreds of times before and I awaited my gradual acceleration to climbing speed. But it did not come. Something was wrong! I was not gaining airspeed! The plane was shaking and obviously close to stalling speed and I was rapidly losing altitude.

Only seconds away from crashing I felt myself being physically crushed by fear and the enormity of my desperate situation. I was going to die! I fought to stay airborne. In a state of total fear and panic I frantically reviewed my only options. Crash, go down with the plane… eject and hope to stay alive long enough in the icy water and be picked up by the carrier which would have to be within 3 minutes.

The stall horn was now blaring! I was only 50 feet over the water and seconds away from crashing and I felt myself being completely crushed into the seat by my fear ~  so I exercised my final option ~  I fully surrendered to that moment!

I let myself be seemingly crushed by fear and in that stillness of complete surrender I became totally clear, devoid of fear and panic and seemingly beyond time and space ~ the longest split second I have ever experienced!

In that timeless split second of total surrender and resultant fearless clarity, I instantly noticed that the gear landing light was still on and that I had obviously not raised it after takeoff ~ the plane was carrying too much drag to gain altitude and airspeed and I calmly raised the gear and regained airspeed and altitude.

It was only years later, while experiencing  a re-birthing exercise, did I connect that crushing feeling I had experienced that night on the South China Sea for it was indeed my original birth trauma and I had exercised the same option I did on that fearful night as a Navy pilot 28 years later ~ I totally surrendered, from a place of numbing fear, and was born two minutes before my twin. I still vividly remember the three lights over the birthing table as I opened my fear closed eyes at the Boston Lying In Hospital on the morning of January 18, 1934.

Obviously, part of me knew that a place of timeless serene calmness and clarity lay beneath my deepest fears that my life and death experience that night on the USS Ranger forced me to surrender to, embrace and go beneath that fear ~ and it became my first dramatic experience of the reality of a Unified Field of love and soul consciousness, beneath our deepest fears, which later in my life I would find and prove by fully surrendering to love.

What happened that night on the South China sea would become the foundation of my life’s quest or journey to demonstrate that beneath our deepest fears is a spring of love, joy and soul consciousness and I have helped thousands of others go beyond their fears and surrender to love through my book Radical Therapy ~ and discover for themselves that love is the true foundation of all true emotional healing.

Here is a link to the YouTube sessions of the process I teach and watch Marina conquer her deepest fear:

Both Edgar Mitchell and myself in our courageous explorations of outer and inner space have discovered the same phenomenon ~ a profound sense of universal connectedness ~ which Edgar witnessed and I discovered ~ which exists not only beyond time and space but also beneath our deepest fears and whose principle property is the urge to unite ~ which most of us continue to ignore at our growing peril.

Thank you Edgar, for sensing the truth and relevance of my Unified Field   in 1998.  Living on the edge is quite often bending reality and recognizing a great truth that was always beneath our deepest fears.

“I theorize that there is a spectrum of consciousness available to human beings. At one end is material consciousness. At the other end is what we call ‘field’ consciousness, where a person is at one with the universe, while perceiving the universe. Just by looking at our planet on the way back, I saw or felt a field consciousness state.”  ~ Edgar Mitchell

NotAVeteran ~ Let me explain by sharing that it is my belief that deepest within each one of us is a psychic energy field of love and soul consciousness (the Unified field) that lies not only beyond time and space but also beneath our deepest fears. I have personally experienced this field during a life and death experience as a Navy Fighter pilot (the Final Option) and also by fully surrendering to love, eventually letting go and falling through a rabbit hole of psychic pain to my original state of state of love, joy and soul consciousness beneath that pain.
Edgar Mitchell experienced that same sense of oneness while gazing on the Earth from the surface of the moon and sensed it was a state of consciousness ~ although we never met.
Edgar later sensed the validity of my Unified Field PHD Dissertation and acknowledged it in 1998 and thus we have been joined in our common quest for this unifying state of consciousness ~ I have proved that what he sensed was real and deepest within each one of us ~ if we have the courage to surrender to love and go beyond our deepest fears to a state of love, joy and soul consciousness ~ that very same self healing state of soul consciousness.
Most of us sense that stream of consciousness but we cannot truly understand it until we access it through gratefulness and love as I demonstrate every day by empowering people in my spiritual heart centered consultations as I did with Marina in the attached YouTube video.

Thank you for your extended reply.
I understand the universal field theory (a bit),
I’ve awoken to the world after a ‘rebirth’ where, after gathering as much information as I could to understand the world, I broke down, fell to the floor in fetus position and /cried\ wailed for the first time in 20 years.

After that I felt a bit better, perhaps a bit more connected, but I started pulling my life together again after that.

      It hurt.

You are always up to date with the Nasa Hoax,

Any new recommendations of videos (slow reader) for, let’s say, the last three months?

    Thanx.

For you Benjamin ~ more comments form space.

“This planet is not terra firma. It is a delicate flower and it must be cared for. It’s lonely. It’s small. It’s isolated, and there is no resupply. And we are mistreating it. Clearly, the highest loyalty we should have is not to our own country or our own religion or our hometown or even to ourselves. It should be to, number two, the family of man, and number one, the planet at large. This is our home, and this is all we’ve got.” — Scott Carpenter, Mecury 7 astronaut, speech at Millersville University, Pennslyvania. 15 October 1992.

“If somebody’d said before the flight, “Are you going to get carried away looking at the earth from the moon?” I would have say, “No, no way.” But yet when I first looked back at the earth, standing on the moon, I cried.” — Alan Shepard

Was Edgar Mitchell a Demon Driver also, Dr. Roland?

    • Allen L Roland, PhD  February 19, 2016 at 8:16 pm

Mitchell flew Navy attack planes, specifically the A3D Sky Warrior before he became a test pilot. He was not a Demon Driver like myself but was slated early in the 1960’s for the astronaut program along with Alan Shepard.

… “… global consciousness, a people orientation, an intense dissatisfaction with the state of the world, and a compulsion to do something about it. “
once having perceived and experienced the “spectrum of consciousness” of the whole cosmos, there is global, and beyond, responsibility to move with it as a participator with recognized power (‘overwhelmed with the sensation of physically and mentally extending out into the cosmos. The restraints and boundaries of flesh and bone fell away”…..we move with distinct purpose and clear intent to free enslaved humanity under attack, we are at war and must engage and align in action and recognize there those who move through space and time in other worlds and realms of this matrix of lies set as a prison ….. place your fingers on the pulse, Palestine, feel the urgency and universal emergency

I really want to understand what thought you are trying to convey here…
But what I read feels like a stream of conciousness.
Most of us are not up to that level of understanding.

      please explain.
