Harry Hurt III

Thorne Dreyer’s guest is Harry Hurt III, our old friend and colleague from Houston who, according to Tim Mak at the The Daily Beast, is Donald Trump’s “most hated biographer.” Harry is the author of Lost Tycoon: The Many Lives of Donald J. Trump, originally published by W.W. Norton in 1993.

On the show, Hurt discusses the Trump scandals, including his ex-wife’s accusations that Donald raped her, how Ivana and Donald Trump tried to stop publication of this book and the obstacles Harry went through getting the book reissued, plus Hurt’s personal encounters with the Donald… and how scary the thought of a Trump presidency is.

After more than two decades the controversial book that Norton “deemed too dangerous to reprint” is finally seeing the light of day again, in a new release by Echo Point. Mak called the book the “Rosetta stone for all things Trump,” while Michael Barbaro of The New York Times has called it “the Bible for Trump reporting.” Among other things, the book “reveals the bombshell that Trump’s ex-wife Ivana accused him of ‘rape’ in a sworn deposition during their divorce, something she has since said she didn’t mean in the ‘criminal’ sense.”

Hurt, a native Houstonian who graduated magna cum laude from Harvard, was an editor at Texas Monthly from 1975 to 1986. Harry has been a business columnist for The New York Times, a correspondent for Newsweek, an editor at Travel + Leisure Golf, a contributor to publications including Esquire, Fortune, Sports Illustrated, and Playboy, and a correspondent for ABC News and ESPN Radio. Harry lives in upstate New York with his wife and son.
