Veterans hit the frontlines in Standing Rock War

[Editor’s note: VT fully supports the protests at Standing Rock and the call for veterans to stand alongside the brave protesters in the face of a most brutal and inhumane policing response that has seen peaceful, lawful protesters assailed with rubber bullets, tear gas, water cannons, attack dogs and perhaps worst of all, the good old club in the hands of a thug in uniform.

Make no mistake, this is a very serious issue that has been brought to the fore here, not just for the Native Indians but for all the peoples of the US of A, this is a battle that must be fought and won if any semblance of democracy, human rights and rule of law is to be preserved. Ian]

US Veterans Stand with Standing Rock, Call for Action

U.S. Armed Forces veterans are heeding to calls to stand in support of the Indigenous protesters as much as against the pipeline itself.

Come December, North Dakota Access Pipeline protesters will likely be receiving support from hundreds of U.S. veterans who have committed to their cause, if everything goes according to plan.

Organizer Wes Clark, Jr., best known as co-host of the Young Turks show, has stated that veterans will be willing to take a bullet if need be. The former U.S. Army officer has called the Standing Rock resistance “the most important event up to this time in human history,” as quoted by Business Insider.

Titled “Veterans Stand for Standing Rock,” the Facebook page announces that hundreds of veterans will be joining the protesters from Dec. 4 to Dec. 7. It also gives a link to a GoFundMe page raising funds for their trip, which has so far received more than US$68,000 of their US$200,000 goal.

The Facebook group was formed with a five-paragraph military operation order that clearly delineated the “opposing forces” – “Morton County Sheriff’s office combined with multiple state police agencies and private security contractors,” reported Business Insider.

According to their GoFundMe Page, they are calling for “peaceful, unarmed militia…(to) defend the water protectors from assault and intimidation at the hands of the militarized police force and DAPL security.”

“Everyday becomes more evident that the defenders of America must stand with the Water Protectors. Let’s stop this savage injustice being committed right here at home,” it reads.

Though the group plans to don full military gear including body armor, they insist they are a peaceful group and will not bring arms.

“Bring Body armor, gas masks, earplugs AND shooting mufflers (we may be facing a sound cannon),” reads their Facebook page. “(B)ut no drugs, alcohol or weapons.”

  1. It’s all about the money and this situation is no different than the Keystone XL pipeline that is being built to transfer Dilbit (diluted bitumen). Neither pipeline is really needed. They are both highly funded by the taxpayers and guarantees no real effect of oil prices, especially the Keystone XL as the product is high sulfur mixed with sand and solvents, which must remain heated at 140* F and transferred with internal pipe pressure into the hundreds of pounds PSI. Does this make any sense?
    Who profits?
    Which congresscritter is getting kickbacks?
Why the show of armed forces?
Who stands to make the most money from this taxpayer funded venture?

  2. Standing Rock is a true cause for protest. The issue can not be disguised or fluffed off. If you care about your legacy as an individual American. If you care about this earth, as so many claim to; this is a proper “cause”. Support this action.

  3. that pipeline is not needed and this is a Red Line Stand in the protection our REAL need, for life giving, life preserving, life nourishing, clean pristine water and this real need encompasses the voiceless of all creatures great and small, the botanicals, the winged and so much more as humans we have the responsibility to protect against those with no love of the land or the people
