NEO – The Cyclic Narrative and Stolen Lives

White Southern poverty has mostly been forgotten
America’s original immigrants – Siberians

by Gordon Duff, VT Sr. Editor, … with New Eastern Outlook, Moscow

We give a Saturday night salute to Col. David Hackworth, the highest decorated officer of the Vietnam War, who started VT with Gordon

[ Editor’s Note: This is another Gordon legacy piece, so it was worth the Saturday afternoon layout; one of the discoveries being that they sprayed DDT on kids at the swimming pool, when mosquitoes don’t live there.

No one who wants a commercial career will publish stuff like this, as blackballing is so easy. Gordon started, if I remember the details correctly, as an AOL chat room monitor. Those were the days of 300-baud modems, and a half-hour wait to get a connection.

He told me years ago how they threw a party when they broke 100 reads on the first Military forum article. Those were the days when a lot more WWII guys were still around, and writing online became a treatment for the untreated PTSD guys, and still is to an extent.

We have outlasted most. When we look back on who was who in the post 9-11 days, not many are left who have not been exposed. Our main detractor has to pay Google to be on the first page of the Veterans Today search, so we consider we must be doing something good.

Being on The Debate with Ed Peck was a trip. I hope we can still be doing this when we are 89. We will be even more dangerous then. We are still waiting for a thank-you card from Trump, and offers to be on his National Security Advisory staff for letting him know there are no FEMA camps. “There just ain’t no end to doin good!” – Little RascalsJim W. For those not tired of the aftermath of the 2016 American election and the first 30 days of the Trump presidency, this missive is not intended. For the rest of us, inundated with Trump’s odd version of a fictional reality and the insanity of the very fake news, and Trump is so right on this, the tit for tat battle going on, eating away our time, our lives, is fake at every turn, fake news, fake president, fake reality, fake everything.

“My fear is he will bring us a reality TV show version of being President”… Jim W. Deam

The major fallout is going to be what the world sees and thinks of the US. After decades of aggressive wars and drone campaigns, no one trusts America that keeps up on things. Trump is just screaming out why so nobody misses it, but the reality of American insanity has been there all along.

For those who think this is a new phenomenon, that somehow millions of Americans have simply lost their minds, that devout “Christians” suddenly decide to support a self-confessed serial philanderer and con man to have his “finger on the nuclear button,” I beg to differ.

America is a land of immigrants, even the “Indians” came here over a land bridge or so we are told, and built communities 10,000 years ago, 4000 years before Earth was created, according to Trump. The rest of us came here in waves of immigration, escaping persecution, or as is too often the case, looking for a chance to move up the food chain and start persecuting others.

For the Trump family it began as human trafficking or as the current president refers to it, “running ‘sporting ladies.’” At this point I will get a bit auto-biographical, as America is the sum of its origins, each of us carry the weight of centuries.

I grew up in Detroit, son of an auto worker, former union organizer, former or not-so-former communist. Back during the 1930s, workers in Detroit were one of two political leanings, Communist or Fascist, and either backed Stalin or Hitler.

Factories were closed, President Roosevelt was stifled by “conservatives” in his attempt to feed the starving and get the economy going, and the real government was a mix of organized crime and a military occupation force of National Guard and police, both of whom served the factory owners.

This is the reality of America, this is the reality of Detroit, a town of racism, lynchings and armed confrontations between labor leaders and the coalition of Mafia/Purple Gang thugs and National Guard who sought to keep wages down and murder anyone who stood against them.

The Purple Gang mug shot

My family came to Detroit in 1780, the first English speaking family there, setting up a fur trading cabin at the confluence of the Detroit and Rouge Rivers is what had been a French city. This was Alexander Duff, second son of Scottish Earl.

Leaving Scotland was much the rage, as families there, particularly the MacDuffs, who controlled about 30% of Scotland, had divided into factions, either collaborating with or fighting against British occupation.

MacDuffs had become powerful first importing wine from Portugal and then by making grain alcohol which they flavored in the old wine barrels made at the family cooperage in Cullen. The beverage was called “Whisky” and was made in Dufftown, and shipped around the world from the port of MacDuff, outside Banff.

Whiskey barrels in Dufftown

Many of the clans were on both sides of Culloden, the end of the Jacobite Rebellion that lasted from 1745 to 1747. To our family, here and in Scotland, it was like it was yesterday.

Half of the MacDuffs joined the British and married into the Germanic royal family, legitimizing their rule of Scotland supposedly while others fled to Ireland or Lower Canada, and Detroit at that time was very much “Lower Canada.”

When the Americans came, Alexander Duff fled to Canada, establishing the City of Windsor, Ontario. The family home, Duff House, still stands on the Detroit River, the oldest building in Ontario.

The real family, now that’s something else. Moving up a century, my grandfather, who owned a meat packing company, died in 1910, leaving his family penniless. My grandmother was a German immigrant who came over with her brothers, Gustav and Josef Lehmann, from Posen. My father, when he was old enough, went to work for Josef, known then as “Legs Lehmann,” enforcer for Detroit’s notorious Purple Gang.

With a family background in the liquor business, running “booze” across from Canada to Detroit in speed boats during prohibition and getting in gun fights with police and customs agents was pretty much like life in Scotland fighting with or for the British.

On my mother’s side, folks had been here for some time, the Smiths coming from England in the late 1600s, to first Virginia then into Kentucky in the 1700s. The Magerts were from Switzerland and came to America in the early 1700s, wealthy farmers for a while at least.

By the time my mother was born, in the mining camp of Glomar, outside Hazard, Kentucky, the family business was coal mining on the poor end, for my mother a life without shoes and even food, until she moved north to find work in a war plant in Detroit in 1942.

This is the America I grew up in, the City of Detroit, a town that was African American, having enjoyed an influx of immigration from the South during the war years, but also a town that enjoyed an equal influx of whites from the South, equally uneducated, equally backward and in many cases venomously angry.

That white anger carried over from the Civil War, not so much the end of slavery or even the supposed exaltation of the “black race” over whites under “reconstruction” after the assassination of President Lincoln. But the South was torn apart, its culture destroyed, denigrated and generations of economic repression kept the South impoverished until reindustrialization began in the 1960s and later.

Those that came up from the South during my childhood were often illiterate, spoke a version of English we barely understood, a backward and violent people. These were the people who, starting in 1865, settled much of the Red State phenomenon of today. This is the real reason for fanatical Christian Evangelism, for anti-government movements, for race hatred and distrust of science and education.

The anger of Trump’s “white America” is rooted in a century of abuse very much at the hands of the powerful banking families of America’s Northeast and their partners in the City of London, the square mile along the Thames where to some extent the world is still “managed” from today.

That anger, that flowed from the American South, into the Midwest and the Rockies, was directed at the East Coast elites, then at African Americans, the former slaves now mistakenly characterized as “masters,” and eventually at the Jews.

Hatred of nearly anyone became the norm, particularly immigrants, the Irish, the Germans and the Scandinavians, who didn’t “fit in.” Then it was the influx of Eastern Europeans, some of whom actually were Jews.

White Southern poverty has mostly been forgotten

The primary threat became Catholicism and later the newer revealed religion, Mormonism, leading to decades of violence and warfare while the nation first tore itself apart in a Civil War and later in a war against the American Indians who resisted ethnic cleansing quite vigorously.

During the 2nd half of the 20th Century, America began a massive move to cities and then later suburbs and cities crumbled into chaos and decay. That influx into cities and suburbs from the century old radicalization and, hoping not to abuse the term, “Talibanization” that followed the Civil War, carried with it the politics, the prejudice, the religious extremism and the history of violence that had grown up on the American frontiers.

With it came a century old hatred of “elites,” distrust of education and science that, and this one is going to be tough to accept, created an odd duality as the white rural poor moved up the social and economic ladder.

“Hey kids, how about a little DDT? It’s good for ya.”

Thus, today in America, you have a class of well-established and “educated” who enjoy economic success and have business acumen but who distrust “professionals” in areas like medicine, law and education, who hate science, distrust all government and still cling to the primitive “frontier” religion of snake handling, faith healing and bizarre heretical Christian prophesies fabricated during the 1800s.

Surrounding most American cities, dotting the suburbs and countryside, are “megachurches,” some seating up to 20,000, whose preachings have little to do with Christianity and much to do with extremist politics, conspiracy theories and in some cases virulent race hatred.

To this nearly 80 million Americans, there are no “facts,” only beliefs. To many, their religion is a gateway to a fantasy world that deeply parallels the life of the classic paranoid, a world of pure black and white, good and bad, with no personal responsibility, no concern for ethics and no qualitative issues of right and wrong.

Primitive cultural triggers have left this group fodder for cynical and clever manipulators who have spent millions guiding the fear and anger of this semi-backward virtual army of “believers” into a political block that serves corporate interests.

Where, on America’s coasts, the social and political movements have sought an end to traditional hatreds and stressed political equality and the limitation of rule by the feudal/corporate classes, America’s center has gone quite the opposite.

John Stuart Mill

To the followers of John Stuart Mill, the “utilitarians,” failing to accept the economy at hand, that guiding those who have no wish for truth, who have no desire for social advancement, into a position that allows a very real return to the colonial/feudal model that globalization represents, would be criminal.

Thus, those who thrive on fear and hatred and fed on fear and hatred. Those taught to hate science can be told vaccinations cause autism. The next step is to convince those who hate science that tetanus, diphtheria and polio are “normal childhood diseases.”

Measles is now recurring in the US as a “harmless disease” though it killed 2.6 million in 1980 worldwide, down to less than 200,000 with the advent of vaccinations. These facts are childishly easy to confirm but believers never confirm anything.

This is the danger faced in the US, not just Trump, an unstable individual who says he loves nuclear war, earning the distrust of friends and enemies alike and, with it, a vast majority of Americans as well.

Similarly, global warming denialism easily traces to think tanks hired by the coal lobby in the 1980s, to the Koch Brothers, who profit off pollution and who spent millions on junk science and “flat earth” propagandists. But it goes further, the same public for years fought against restrictions on cigarette smoking when the same think tanks that deny global warming also said those who claimed smoking caused cancer were “irresponsible.”

A generation of Americans died because of this. America’s liquor lobby for decades kept down enforcement against drunk driving and killed tens of thousands each year, maiming millions over the decades.

Use of DDT and other pesticides killed off America’s bee population and other insects and reduced the bird population by 80%, while the logging industry stripped much of the Pacific Northwest, even clear-cutting ancient redwoods and selling them to Japan.

The nuclear industry built plants everywhere, most leak radiation. Then it was made illegal to report radiation leaks, a standard ploy, one as with these others, supported by anti-government “believers” who began getting all information through their religious leaders who, oddly enough, got their marching orders from Washington think tanks run by financial criminals and hedge fund conmen.

The current battles being lost today under Trump and the “know-nothing” rule aren’t just things like wages and working conditions. The new head of the Environmental Protection Agency is now moving to allow toxic contaminant levels in drinking water, including class 1 carcinogens, to reach deadly levels, in order to help relieve pressure on industry, he says.

Similarly, cancer causing toxins are now being listed as “harmless” based on altered and censored reports, now allowed under Trump executive orders that came out his first day in office. A generation faces shortened lives because of this, supported by 80 million Americans who believe Jesus will save them from cancer.

I could go on forever, but it is key to know that little of this is new. Fooling people has been around for some time, as we see from this quote from Abraham Lincoln, which we aren’t even sure Lincoln said, but we wish he did:

“You can fool all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.” You certainly can fool some of the people all of the time, about 80 million of them.

  1. To the right foaming out the mouth religious extremists! To your left foaming out the butt (I dont even now what to call it at this point) fanatics!

Welcome to battlefield United States of America..

Unfortunately most of us are victims being used by one party or another. Some of us choose the party that is better tailored to ourselvs; while most go along with what feels better to them [ Sensationalist ]. There are allies amoung enemies and enemies amoung allies. Into someting new comes along it is what it is.

  2. A centralized focus in the formation of society has led to the corruption of “the children”. In the fabric of society, not all people are leaders or medical geniuses. The most important part of society for actual spiritual elders, are the work force, or the active group which provides material goods for the people. These are commonly known as “the children” and it is considered a spiritual crime to mislead, needlessly frighten, or fool them. The fabric is our clothing and how we appear as clans, symbolically remains accurate and is clearly visible in fundamentalist Christianity. The book was not written by those who claim it, and it was never intended for public consumption any more than a book teaching differential equations. I view them as helpless victims being driven by the least scrupulous. They scream “get a job” instead of “get a business”. They don’t ask, they take. They are taught apologies are weak and humility is weak. They think sharing is unethical, and killing is justified. Their teachers are known as “the little”. They are considered blind, because they have no “vision”.

  3. With all due respects. The criminalized ones were the supporters of the old regimes & whose rights were taken away. 968 is around the time the foundation of the imposition of Danelaw was being laid. Looks like your clan, (Hatton MacDuff) was the section that chose to stay independent of the Vikings, later to be known as Danes in Scotland and Normans in France. This was in parallel to a cultural genocide. Hence by the time of William Wallace (Welsh) the Oak Crown, a symbol of pure leadership amongst the ancient peoples, was ridiculed. I am guessing (by your name which translates to “the dark ones”) that your stock was of the original pre-Celtic stock. The ones that were described as late as the 12th century, as the “swarthy ones”. Good exciting knowledge. Was your grand-uncle, Josef Lehmann, Jewish? Good to know you, regardless. And I do differ with you on some opinions.

Kind of parallels what happened to many families during recent colonial rule. My clan were farmers, soldiers, police and when the crops were bad and central authority was weak, dacoits (bandits). They were marginalized for their active opposition to the British, up until 1857. Some branches took 4 generations to recover, mostly by marriage into the collaborative comprador families.

  4. Mr. Duff: For sure, a tour de force about little known history in America. Well worth reading. Again.

What also should be included in the little known history of America is the history of DDT and Polio, since Polio mimics the symptoms of DDT poisoning (and vice versa).

“[W]ell known to medicine: Under the microscope, it’s almost impossible to differentiate between tissue samples from polio victims and from victims of DDT-type pesticide poisoning. The histology is identical.”

Above is an excerpt from “Polio Joins the War on Terror” on 4 August 2004 by Fintan Dunne at, a project for Nigeria in which I too participated.

Although most others & I would certainly not say that all vaccines are ineffective or worse, Polio vaccines CANNOT protect anyone against DDT-type poisoning, which now causes most Polio-type afflictions.

Same was true in 1950s America, when Polio decreased long before Polio vaccines became widespread. Why? Because DDT manufacturers decreased DDT usage, then needed Polio as a scapegoat… Voilà!

  5. There has been global warming at the end off each ice age. The Sun has about a 300 yr cycle. Early 1700’s was a low in the out put of the Sun. There has diffidently been global warming since the low. Now we are at a high and things are going to get colder. Human activity is not going to change the cycle of the Sun.

  6. Vaccines have made seminal contributions to public health. I have had them all my life with no apparent adverse consequences. But as I have studied aspects of medicine I have discovered that few medical procedures are 100% free of side or “main” effects to the patient. This is why it is so vitally important to have simple, safe, cheap and quick alternatives to vaccinations. The late Frederick .R. Klenner, M.D., a distinguished medical doctor with a degree from Duke University, became an expert in this field of virology and cured all childhood viral diseases up to and including Polio with high dose Vitamin C before 1949 administered intravenously. All this research was published but the medical orthodoxy stonewalled it. He proved many other problems could be successfully treated this way also like poisonous snake and insect bites. Much of this is discussed in a 1971 article in Journal of Applied Nutrition available online. The corrupt medical orthodoxy has failed to acknowledge and test his results and even lied about them. Many others verified his claims at the time. This is a shameful disgrace similar to the disgrace of the failed war on cancer.

    • Case History: Snake bite from Frederick R. Klenner, M..D.:
“Child of 4 years was struck on the lower leg by a large highland moccasin at 7:00 P.M., while at play in the yard of her country home. Seen in the emergency room of the local hospital at 7:30 P.M., the child was vomiting, was crying because of severe pain in her leg, which she held with both hands above the “fang marks”. Fever was 99.0°F. Four grams of ascorbic acid was given intravenously at 7:35 P.M. with a 20 c.c. syringe. The following 25 minutes were taken to follow a skin test on anti-venom. At this time and before the anti-venom was administered the child had stopped vomiting, she had stopped crying and was sitting on the emergency room table, laughing and drinking a glass of orange juice. She commented: “Come on, Daddy, I’m all right now, let’s go home.” She was allowed to return home with the understanding that her father would give me a report, by phone, each hour during the night. This he did. His report, each time, was that the child was sleeping as usual and that except for moderate swelling to the “calf of the leg”, appeared normal. Seen in the office at 10:00 A.M. the following morning she still demonstrated the small amount of swelling of her leg and had 1/2 degree fever. She was given a second dose of 4 grams of ascorbic acid intravenously. Seen at 5 P.M. she had no fever but the swelling remained constant. There was no pain.” Con’t. below:

    • Con’t. from above: “The following day, 38 hours after being bitten, she was completely normal. Since this was our first case of snake bite treated with vitamin C, we elected to give an additional 4 grams of ascorbic acid on this visit. No other antibiotics were given and none was required. Since she had had a booster injection of tetanus toxoid in recent months, none was given at this time.
Comparing this to an earlier case of snake bite in a 16 year old girl, struck by a moccasin of about the same size, as gauged from the fang marks, on the hand while pulling tobacco plants, and who was hospitalized for three weeks. She was given 3 doses of anti-venom. The arm was compressed continuously with magnesium sulfate solution. Swelling was four times that of the opposite arm and striae developed over the entire surface. This patient received no vitamin C other than that found in a regular hospital diet. Morphine was required to control pain. (We no longer use anti-venom.)”

    • Dr. Klenner was what I call a “real” doctor. Most are just medical clerks blindly following some protocal for the money. I attended a couple of AAO (eyes) conventions with a Dr. friend. I watched all these Dr.s sitting around listening to presentations from the equipment and medicine manufacturors. It wasn’t about science and medicine, it was all about increasing profits.

    • The Book of the Duffs is online 1914 version by Helen Taylor, I think anyway. I am a “Hatton McDuff,” from Hatton Castle….which isn’t much of a castle.

Family are all criminals and have been so since 968 according to records.

  7. LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Ms. Angela Gary, Editor, Braselton News Today, [email protected]
    October 1, 2015
Re: Bicentennial celebration of the birth of Crawford W. Long, M.D., Braselton News, Thursday September 24, 2014, page 12.
    Dear Editor:
Many people, inside and outside of Georgia, are not aware of what a Golden Century the Nineteenth Century was in Georgia for both medicine and science. Four top scientists and medical doctors were born during this period in Georgia: Crawford W. Long, M.D., November 1, 1815, Danielsville; brothers John LeConte, M.D., December 4, 1818 and Joseph LeConte, M.D., February 26, 1823 both at Liberty County near Savannah; and William Lorenzo Moss, M.D, August 23, 1876, Athens.
Crawford W. Long, M.D. was the first of this remarkable group of scientists produced in Georgia during this Golden Period. He is one of four persons in the world, two medical doctors and two dentists, credited with the seminal discovery of anesthesia.
Just imagine what surgery or a visit to the dentist would be like without anesthesia! They would be very painful experiences. If Nobel prizes had been awarded during this period, he most certainly would have been given one, but they were not given until 1900. His many great accomplishments and contributions to humanity are well documented at the Crawford Long Museum in Jefferson, Georgia. Con’t. below:

    • Con’t. from above: Teachers should take their classes to this fabulous museum to expose kids to the history of this great medical doctor and scientist from Georgia. He earned his medical degree in Pennsylvania.
A great book describing all four individuals responsible for this great discovery by Dennis Brindell Fradin is cited below. Today some 200 years later, it is not important who made this great discovery first, but rather that all humanity benefits from it today.
The LeConte brothers earned their medical degrees in New York. After losing everything in the Civil War, John LeConte, M.D. was appointed first president and first professor of physics at the newly formed University of California, Berkeley, 1868; his younger brother Joe LeConte, M.D. soon followed him there on the newly completed Transcontinental Railroad and was appointed first professor of Geology at UC Berkeley. John LeConte is considered “Father of the University of California”. His high scholarly accomplishments and early policies set the standards and stage for its intellectual greatness to come in the next century. Joe was a charter member of the Sierra Club, a friend of Naturalist John Muir, and wrote a seminal textbook on Geology used into the twentieth century.
Dr. William L. Moss, M.D. was one of three people in the world to make the seminal discovery of blood groups. Con’t. below:

    • Con’t. from above:
Dr. William L. Moss, M.D. was one of three people in the world to make the seminal discovery of blood groups. This was a Nobel Prize winning discovery with the prize being awarded to Karl Landsteiner, M.D. of Austria, which Dr. Moss should have shared with him, but European scientists were favored then. Without the basic knowledge of blood groups, most surgery, involving blood transfusions, would be impossible. Dr. Moss earned his medical degree at Johns Hopkins University at Baltimore, Maryland.
An interesting fact is that Crawford W. Long, M.D. delivered baby William Lorenzo Moss when he was born in Athens, Georgia August 23, 1876! Crawford Long delivered many babies in his time but Dr. Moss was likely the most famous one. Dr. Long died June 16, 1878 nearly two years later. He was 62. Dr. Long was the only member of this group of four top medical doctors who actually treated patients; the other three were research scientists.
Every citizen of Georgia today, and indeed every citizen of the world, owes a debt of gratitude to the genius level scientist and physician from Danielsville, Madison County, Georgia: Crawford Williamson Long, M.D. He was both a scientist and medical doctor and humanitarian of the highest order, who was the first in the line of four great scientists and medical doctors produced in Georgia during its Golden Age of Science and Medicine in the Nineteenth Century.

  8. ”each of us carry the weight of centuries”…. grasp that responsibility….
Here are 80 million who individually abdicate this responsibility, ” leaving them “ fodder for cynical and clever manipulators” …. willingly handing themselves over to “the Romans” chapter 13 …a dumbing down to slumber and the thief enters in…..“megachurches,” whose preachings have little to do with Christianity” …”a semi-backward virtual army of “believers” into a political block that serves corporate interests”.
co-opting the words “Handling the word of truth aright” limit to “66 cobbled together” scrolls ….then by cunningly selecting phrases or ”Primitive cultural triggers” they have 80 million people believing they are following a Jesus that even Jesus doesn’t recognize….lending support to the greatest abomination the world has ever materialized through lies…. they raise Baal through the flag of imposter israel…and all of them should know better…….when truth is hitting them over the head and Jesus walks away in disgust do the blind choose to be blind?.

    • You hit it squarely on the head. This is what these megachurches are all about. In America, religion is a business like anything else and if you can sell anything , you can sell the fable about a mysterious person walking the earth, turning water into cheap knock-off wine and having moonlight walks on the water that end with a fishing trip with the boys.
America has had its share of Elmer Gantrys: Jim Baker, Jimmy Sweigart, Ted Hagard, Billy and Franklin Graham, Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, John Hagee….the list goes on and on of frauds, charlatans and cheap jack religious hustlers.

  9. Outstanding Gordon. The late, great Joe Bageant wrote eloquently and with wry humor and perspicacity about these people in his two excellent tomes, “Deerhunting with Jesus” and “American Pie”, along with numerous articles. He was a veteran of “The Suck”, (U.S. Navy) and hailed from West Virginia. With your background, it is little wonder you enlisted in, “The Crotch” (U.S. Marine Corps). The ranks of the Red, White, and Blue Murder Machine are always filled with the alienated and dispossessed working classes. Keep punching Brother.
