‘Trump’s only ideology is ‘me’, deeply authoritarian & very dangerous’ – Noam Chomsky

However, there is no other option in the eyes of the people, Chomsky added in his interview to BBC.

“What is the alternative to Trump? The democrats gave up on the working class 40 years ago. It’s not their constituency, no one in the political system is. The Republicans claim to be, but they are basically their class enemy. However they can appeal to people on the basis of claims ‘We’re gonna help you economically, even when we kick you in the face’?”

In his book, Chomsky branded the Republican Party as “the most dangerous organization on Earth,” and when asked to explain, he pointed out that it’s about something they refuse to admit exists.

“Trump will do damage to the world, and it’s already happening. The most significant aspect of the Trump election is not just Trump, but the whole Republican Party as they are departing from the rest of the world on climate change, a crucial issue, an existential threat,” Chomsky said.

He called the denial “an astonishing spectacle,” in which “the US, alone in the world, not only refuses to participate in efforts to deal with climate change, but is dedicated to undermining them. And it’s not just Trump – every single Republican leader is the same and it goes down to local levels.”

And US popular opinion isn’t exactly of any help, according to Chomsky.

“Roughly 40 percent of the population think it can’t be a problem, because Jesus is coming in a couple of decades.”

Isn’t Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) more of a threat? It would seem so, but Chomsky isn’t sure about that.

“Is ISIS dedicated to destroy the prospects for organized human existence? What does it mean to say is Not only we’re not doing anything about climate change, but we’re trying to accelerate the race to the precipice. Doesn’t matter whether they genuinely believe it or not, if the consequence of that is, let’s use more fossil fuel, let’s refuse to subsidize developing countries, let’s eliminate regulations that reduce greenhouse gas emissions — if that’s the consequence, that’s extremely dangerous.”

“Trump’s only ideology is ‘me’, it’s not Hitler or Mussolini, but deeply authoritarian and very dangerous,” the philosopher concluded.

The process happening in the US is universal, though, and is taking place worldwide, Chomsky told BBC, due to “a massive assault on the large part of the population, an assault on democracy” which led to “not just anger, but contempt for centrist institutions.”

“A large part of the population feels that they are just not responsive to them,” and Chomsky enumerates the results of this: Trump, Brexit, Le Pen.

Nevertheless, Emmanuel Macron’s victory in the French presidential election is “by no means the end to the populism in Europe,” he said. In fact, “Macron is an example of populism, because he came from the outside, because the institutions have collapsed. The vote for him was substantially the vote against Le Pen.”

Last, but not least, Chomsky spoke out on WikiLeaks Editor-in-Chief Julian Assange, calling his persecution and threats against him to be “completely wrong.”

“What’s keeping him in prison – and in fact he is in prison [holed up in the Ecuadorian embassy in London] – is the threat that the United States will go after him. Same thing that’s keeping [security whistleblower Edward] Snowden in Russia. And he is right to worry about it and it is the threat that is wrong.”

  1. Sorry Mr. Chomsky. You got it wrong. Again. The existential threat #1 to humanity in 21-st century is clearly
coming not from the climate change. It’s comings from the gang of occult-ridden maniacs who play docile
population as a disposable fiddle. If these maniacs take full control over this planet, a sudden and deadly climate change or some other cataclysm would be, very likely, the best scenario for its remaining habitants.

  2. Mr. Chomsky defends the current system, nothing else. Macrons plans are the same which Hollande proposed and failed. Macron will fail, too, and leads definetly to LePen. Mao killed 60 Million Chinese, but Peter Scholl-Latour said, it was necessary to destroy the 3000 years old decadent Chinese Mandarin system. I have no ideas to Trump, whom can i trust, Mr. Chomsky? As an outsider i can only state “All Quiet on the Western Front”. If beside the Roman Empire was any Fascist state in history then it is the US, permanently at war of aggression since independence day with a society prepared to use violence as the first solution. Mr. Chomsky’s Hitler and Mussolini were much too small to be dangerous. The US ist the real synonym of THE Nazi-state, war, war and again, war of aggression.

  3. Noam Chomsky, is it true you agree with the official 911 report? I think it a fair question. As for climate change? It may or may not be an issue. If it is it doesn’t rate top billing, as the earth is more threatened by the violence of a never ending war that hasn-t borders or definition delivered on the wave of hysteria created by the events of 911. A crime which has never been fully investigated or prosecuted. Until it is choas is king. I think a more worthy use of your position, and time would be 911.

  4. Even a clock is right twice a day. Chomsky is a bit of an enigma. He has published some very informative books while on the other hand he misses the target on some very important issues. Sometimes is difficult to figure out where he is coming from. I don’t believe he is one of these zionist dis-info agents but like a lot of people in Academia he is either very cautious or ignorant of certain facts. Going too far off the reservation can get you noticed and end up like Prof. Tony Hall at Lethbridge University where he has been persecuted for a false Facebook meme planted by Joshua Goldberg.
Trump is very dangerous and coupled with paranoia the results are becoming very evident. Just how far will he go to protect himself is the question and just how far will the Republican led congress go to protect him is another. Just how much more will the America people tolerate before they become so fed up?
America is in very grave danger. Not from Russia, China or North Korea but from itself or more precisely from an out of control, lawless government. One that not only threatens the American people but the entire world as well.
How much longer is the rest of the world going to tolerate Washington’s insouciance and aggression?

  5. Much of the information and statistics surrounding climate change has been falsified. I admit, surely there are things we can do better when it comes to taking care of our planet, but many credible scientists have suggested that man’s contribution to carbon dioxide levels is relatively insignificant. More than 30,000 scientists have signed a petition denying the rhetoric proposed by global warming/climate change activists.

It’s one thing to suggest the climate is changing, but to suggest the problem can be fixed by transferring more money out of the working class and into the pockets of the controlling-mind, is ridiculous. No amount of carbon tax can fix the problem. Throwing money at problems hardly ever solves anything.

Besides, our carbon emissions cannot possibly explain the simultaneous warming of other bodies within our solar system. To me, it makes sense that our solar system itself has an orbit, and it periodically travels through galactic dust clouds, or different belts of radiation, which could effect the sun and the climate of all planets.

  6. Noam Chomsky, mentor to my St. Louis U. linguistics mentor’s mentor, is a sham & a scam — a limited hangout, which doesn’t mean that Chomsky doesn’t sometimes tell the truth. He does (e.g., above).

  7. So long as secrecy exists democracy is a sham. How do you know any vote is what is represented by the authority in charge? How do you prove it? With secrecy you can’t prove it. It is an impossibility. Even with small groups voting in say university departments to promote others. The vote is secret. But each member writes his vote on a piece of paper. These pieces of paper are then collected by whomever is running the meeting. This person then supposedly counts the votes and reports the results to the group but no one is allowed to see the pieces of paper to verify his claim. Everyone must “trust” him. How do they know he didn’t fudge the results? They don’t know. People lie all the time about such things. Conflicts of interest abound. People rationalize lying about all sorts of things every day. Lawyers are taught to lie and cheat in school. They are the masters at lying and cheating. Lawyers run and dominate all three branches of our government. There are zero checks and balances. Paul Revere should have shouted, “the lawyers are coming, the lawyers are coming.” The only reason our system works at all is because life is too short for most people to challenge it.

    • The best scams are those in which the victim does not know he was fleeced or had. Examples have been provided in films like “Absence of Malice” or “The Sting” both with Paul Newman. Some of the best scams are sympathy scams like Sandy Hook with all the fake dead kids to provide sympathy to divert attention from the lack of facts and evidence of the alleged crime; the only crime was that of the hoax by government. The American Cancer Society runs a massive sympathy racket every day using sympathy for “survivors” while never mentioning the fact of the millions of dead failures buried in cemeteries. The exaggerated numbers of the Holohoax victims provides sympathy and brings in good money. This is why they resort to even censorship and criminal laws preventing any challenge to their claims; it is all about money and continuing this massive sympathy scam while ignoring the holocausts of numerous other groups from the beginning of time until this day. The second best scams are when secrecy is involved so hard proof is not available to challenge the official lies. This was present in the Sandy Hook Hoax and the 9/11 Hoax and all the others. People are easily duped and fooled and swindled and scammed and conned…They seem to enjoy being fleeced. People seem to relish in being shafted by propaganda. This is why Joesph Paul Goebbels was the most important man in Nazi, Germany. All we learned from them is how to copy them.

  8. Mr. trump may not be a fascist yet. but we are living in a fascist state. simply put, when you have your government, your corporations, and your media in bed together you have a recipe for fascism.

  9. Hmm, someone else mentioned that after logging in VT site navigation became odd. Don’t know quite where this comment will appear because the previous comment was a reply to Doubting_Thomas. This comment box indicates I’m replying to something, but it could be an article on another page.

Anywhoo, so we have a Biased Broadcasting Corp. (BBC) article featuring one of Zionism’s most dedicated gatekeepers who claims ex-Rothschild banker and establishment favorite Macron is a populist and an outsider…. LOL, LOL, and some more LOL. And it’s not even Apr.1!

  10. Are capitalism and democracy at odds?

Does unregulated capitalism lead to a concentration of wealth and power that ends up controlling the political system and making a sham of democracy?
