AMERICAN POSTMORTEM: Three More Senators Sign on as Co-Sponsors of Israel Anti-Boycott Act

Three more US senators have added their names as co-sponsors of S.720, the Israel Anti-Boycott Act, a bill that would make it a felony for Americans to support a boycott of Israel. The latest three senators to add their names are: Steve Daines of Montana, Jeff Flake of Arizona, and Richard C. Shelby of Alabama. All three are Republicans.

According to the ACLU, should the bill be signed into law violators could be punished by hefty fines and up to 20 years in prison. The addition of Daines, Flake, and Shelby brings the total number of co-sponsors to 48. Had Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York not withdrawn as a co-sponsor, the number would now stand at 49. However, as I noted in my most recent post on this issue, Gillibrand withdrew her name after taking heat from her constituents.

You can go here to see the total list of senators who have signed on as co-sponsors. The bill was originally introduced by Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Maryland) on March 23, 2017.

So far, the House version of the same bill has picked up 249 co-sponsors. That’s 31 more votes than it needs to pass. Unless a miracle happens, the bill is pretty much a done deal in the House. You can go here to see the list of representatives who are willing to trash the First Amendment to the US Constitution in order to please Israel and its lobby.

Be that as it may, I would encourage people to look over both lists, and if your senator or representative happens to be among the co-sponsors, to give him or her a call. The fact that Gillibrand withdrew her support shows that complaints from constituents on this issue can make a difference.

  1. Fortunately, most if not all U.S. courts will strike down this law as ‘clearly unconstitutional.’

In mid-1970s, I got into heated, animated, very public, up-close-&-personal debates with an Hasidic rabbi who was a NY law school dean about whether Nazis should be allowed to march in Skokie, Illinois (home of many WW2 Jewish victims & families).

The rabbi was anti-march; and I was pro-march — not because I was pro-Nazi, but because Nazis should be able to show themselves for who they are. Of course, I won (for legal reasons) — during the debates AND when the Nazis marched, as per a U.S. court decision.

Little did I know then, but the rabbi agreed with me. He too wanted the Nazis to march — so that more would know what Nazis were/are all about. After the rabbi & law school dean died, another rabbi told me about how the rabbi/dean felt about the debates in my law school student lounge, surrounded by faculty & students, as we got up-close-&-personal into each other’s face — as only an Hasidic rabbi can do. 😉

  2. The news story I cannot wait to read is the one about Israel getting flattened entirely and the whole world celebrating.

  3. Why stop with fines and 20 years? Why not execute perpetrators like the Saudis? Return to public hanging for the “offense” of criticizing the biggest unindicted war criminal on the planet who can’t even get long with its own neighbors and steals land from them every day! America has degenerated to the land of the cowards and three fools: No see, no hear, no speak. America deserves its plight into oblivion. In America today people can’t be bothered with fighting for basic rights the Founders and many good U.S. Servicemen and Servicewomen have died defending for over 200 years. Americans do not deserve America today and will most certainly lose what few freedoms we have left after the same Congress of whores gang raped us with the first “Patriot Act” with a lone dissenter. In America it is more important to get the car washed than to defend your freedom to criticize the gangster state of Israel who daily rapes the Palestinians.

  4. There are people who ask – still ask – how can a country like America be taken over?
Well, as easy as pie, and right here we have a PERFECT EXAMPLE of how it is done. While the masses are worried stiff about a war starting in Iran (which is Bibi´s duty) or North Korea, the real handcuffs are sneaked in via Congress/Senat to become law. Easy, isn´t it?
Your biggest and most successful wholesale sneaker was Obama, you would nee a big truck to remove all the hundcuffs he sneaked in.
Meanwhile, back at the farm, America is about to go to war with North Korea – for the umptiest time.

God bless VT, and Richard Edmondson.

  5. I can just see a bunch of commentators sitting at their computer too shocked and baffled to get an appropriate comment together.
20 years. Compare that with other crimes. The chutzpah of the Jews knows no boundary. It sloshes over into comedy.
