Jim Hightower, America’s best-known populist writer, author, radio commentator and progressive political activist joins Thorne Dreyer this week. Hightower is a frequent guest on Rag Radio and our shows together are always lively and lots of fun.

We address the top of the political news — including Trump’s bizarre political acrobatics — and look at the prospects for progressive candidates in upcoming elections. And we talk about the hypocrisy of Ted Cruz, who voted against aid for Hurricane Sandy and now is demanding aid for Hurricane Harvey victims.

Also, here are the headlines from a few of Hightower’s recent articles and we touch on all of them in the discussion:

“The gaping hole in Trump’s border wall”
“Tweeter-in-chief versus the wisdom of Robert E. Lee”
“Wall Street thieves find ‘New Ways’ to steal from us”
“A corporate supercell spawning a hailstorm of special-interest legislation”

Jim Hightower, editor of The Hightower Lowdown and a member of the Board of Directors of the Bernie Sanders-initiated grassroots activist group, Our Revolution, is a former editor of the Texas Observer who was twice elected Texas Agriculture Commissioner (like that could happen today!). For years, Hightower has been a major force on the populist left. Jim, who believes that the true political spectrum is not right to left but top to bottom, broadcasts daily radio commentaries and is a New York Times best-selling author whose books include Swim Against the Current: Even a Dead Fish Can Go with the Flow and Thieves in High Places.
