    • Pope Francis accuses Chile sex abuse victims of slander. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/pope-francis-accuses-chile-sex-abuse-victims-of-slander/
I was a little surprised to see this on CBS. Usually the story has to be bigger, or at least “unavoidable”.
I have said, from the beginning of Francis, that his place is to secure what remains and ensure the money flow.
Here, we have him going back to his stomping ground, and drawing lines in the sand in an attempt to leverage political power to prevent a runaway situation with the waiting hordes of victims, yet to speak out in SA. I’m not so sure this was a wise move for him, and it may well backfire like a standard Trumpism. Has he taken a move out of Trumps playbook after assessing the net gain of blowback ?

    • This quote alone from the CBS article is quite profound. “”He has just turned back the clock to the darkest days of this crisis,” she said in a statement. “Who knows how many victims now will decide to stay hidden, for fear they will not be believed?”
“Indeed, Catholic officials for years accused victims of slandering and attacking the church with their claims. But up until Francis’ words Thursday, many in the church and Vatican had come to reluctantly acknowledge that victims usually told the truth and that the church for decades had wrongly sought to protect its own. “”
He pulled a Trump. He showed up and begged forgiveness from the victims first, then slammed them on the way out. Financially , it may well be a net gain, spiritually, it is profoundly ignorant. Criminal even.

    • Something like this has a nominal effect on the big money flow, due to the laundering nature of the majority. It will cost the individual parishes the smaller donations from the poor. The net gain, is the insertion of hopelessness to the victims, who are just now being emboldened to speak out on horrific abuse, thus avoiding the payouts of the lawsuits. Again, this was strictly a financial decision. A callous disregard for what is most likely tens of thousands of victims in SA, and more elsewhere. he knew this story would fly, …no doubt.
Meanwhile, all eyes on Dr Nassar, and how he got past the scrutiny of USA Olympics and the Michigan University, just like Penn State,… and Boston, and Philadelphia, and LA, and Washington, and on and on
The number of people claiming to be awake, is massively larger than the actually awakened
