Military life can be physical, psychological, and emotional rollercoaster. On top of the aggressive training, soldiers face other hardships as they look to protect the world. Things can also get boring when they are not training or fighting enemies. Soldiers’ involvement in recreational and leisure activities will go a long way in helping them cope with the physical and mental challenges that they may meet along the way.

This may result from stressors such as separation from their spouses, injuries, deployment, and other traumas. With a list of recreational activities at their disposal, their psychological lives can be significantly improved. Here is a list of recreation activities that soldiers are allowed to indulge in.

  1. Gambling

Gambling has been one of the tools that soldiers have used to satisfy their desire for risk and adventure. The online slot has made access to gambling for soldiers more convenient and accessible than ever. Most countries allow their soldiers to take a break from their hectic lives by betting online. While that may be the case, there are still countries that are strict on gambling, as they have a ban on it. It does not stop there. In some states, gambling has been accepted as a good source of recreation; with that, they have slot machines in dedicated recreation rooms in the barracks.

  1. Fitness centers

It is not always business in the army barracks. Since they undergo a lot of training, which includes physical, the army welfare associations still see the need to have fitness facilities in camps and barracks. In barrack gyms, soldiers are given specialist fitness coaching. The personnel in the barracks gyms and fitness facilities are trained and know the kind of fitness that people who are serving in the army required. They have relevant and updated fitness plans, tailor-made for military fitness of different individuals.

Not only are these facilities a source of recreation but also a way of continually preparing their bodies for the service life. Through mindset coaching, soldiers can improve their mental health, self-esteem, and confidence.

  1. Sports

You have probably heard about military basketball, football, and hockey teams. These are just a few of the many sports that are available in the army. In some camps, sports and athletics opportunities are offered for service members who have had injuries to help them in both mental and physical recovery.

Hockey, wrestling, football, swimming, and other sports have also been instrumental in helping service members improve and foster social skills. Army sports provide an excellent opportunity for service members to do something else, other than aggressive training while at the camp. This helps a great deal in bringing a balance to their lives, which also promotes mental health.

On top of that, it is a way of promoting inclusive communities in the army and also empowering individuals. To bolster a competitive spirit, they are also allowed to participate in leagues for the base sports.

  1. Outdoor recreation activities

The army provides outdoor recreation activities for service members. Some time away from the military barracks can be rejuvenating and a great opportunity to connect with the outside world, and most importantly, their families. Service members’ associations offer travel camps, hunting facilities, trails, and even riding stables. In these facilities, service members can have a great time reconnecting with the world outside the military and their families. They get to have fun in go-cart tracks with their kids, and other adventures like fishing.

Outdoor recreation programs and travel plans are very instrumental in helping service members enjoy the outdoors with their love ones. The best part is that they also get to enjoy the adventures and outdoor activities at reasonable rates. The goal of outdoor activity is to make the service members feel less confined at the base and allow them to spend time with their loved ones.

While in the army barracks, service members are given training that does not only involve combat. Artistic individuals get the opportunity to learn art and crafts at the posts. The instructional classes serve as a great recreational activity.

Life at the army base does not have to be boring and harsh. There are tons of recreational activities you can indulge in during your leisure time. This will help you have the best of both worlds: at camp and outside the camp.
