Senior Iranian Official: Conflict over Nagorno- Karabakh region cannot be resolved militarily
by Jim W. Dean, VT Editor, …with PressTV, Tehran
[ Editor’s Note: The Azeris got their wake up call when the forward airbase they were using got destroyed by an Armenian retaliatory strike, legal under the laws of war, as it was launching attacks not only against Nagorno-Karabakh, but Armenia itself.
If Baku did that on purpose to get Armenia to use up more of its missiles, it was successful. We are still trying to figure out the insanity of this war, as the Azeris will certainly get nothing other than looking ridiculous, but that is not necessarily a problem for a dictator.
There is nothing in Nagorno-Karabakh that Azerbaijan needs. There are no natural resources, and the Azeris are rich enough to buy the wonderful Armenian rugs made there. They don’t need a war to steal them, and frankly its cheaper just to buy them.
The only winners in this conflict so far are the usual bad boys, Israelis, and Turks, who will sell weapons to anyone to keep their war production machine going, as does the US, and to hell with whoever gets slaughtered in the process.
The US is on the semi-hotspot for being so quiet about the Azeris using F-16s to attack population areas, something that concerned dictator İlham Aliyev to the point that he denied having any F-16s, which is true, except for the ones that Turkey flew in to run combat missions.
As for who is responsible to build up the Azeri military, it is a big party. The Russians had the front row seat, as the old Soviet bases were there, but the US has played the major role in modernizing the airbases, with NATO having a finger in the pie with its Azerbaijan-NATO Individual Partnership Action Plan
The Israelis gave Aliyev a license to manufacture drones there, establishing a permanent flow of Israelis going back and forth, which facilitates its espionage operations with lots of cover for this type of activity.
What we basically have are autocratic governments like Turkey and Azerbaijan playing the world powers off against each other, all the way to the bank. Both the Russians and the US have helped build and run Azerbaijan’s radar bases.
As usual, NATO is acting as a sales agent for weapons manufacturers, under the cover of defending us against ‘foreign aggression’, which has been a long-running and successful scam.
The proof of this will be the new weapons orders the Azeris will have to place for all the destruction they have incurred in this stupid war, with you know who(s) laughing all the way to the bank… Jim W. Dean ]

A senior Iranian official says the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region cannot be resolved militarily.
The top advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said Iran respects the territorial integrity of all countries and spares no efforts to mediate peace talks between the sides.
Ali Akbar Velayati called on Turkey NOT to encourage Azerbaijan into conflict with Armenia. Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman also called for an immediate ceasefire to the conflict.
He said that the Islamic Republic has prepared an initiative to resolve the conflict, adding that Tehran is pursuing the plan through consultations with both sides.

Azerbaijan has gone too far with its activities against the security and economic interests of Iran and Russia. An escalation of the war may result in total destruction of this country and the loss of all wealth collected since the 1990s.
In the moment of hot war, Azerbaijan will realize that its promoting powers are geographically and strategically far away. For the USA and Turkey the treasures of Azerbaijan don’t have any value if they cannot be exploited and transferred under peaceful conditions.
IMHO, Azerbaijan, USA and Turkey have more to loose if they escalate the war. Iran and Russia had not entered the war like Turkey, Israel and the USA already do for Azerbaijan. The results will be similar but more clear than in Syria!
For Armenia this is just an opportunity to get some more concessions about airspace and transit routes. If it doesn’t get these advantages, the border region of Azerbaijan to Georgia and Russia would be the next target of attack. This will also persuade the government of Azerbaijan to revoke its intentions about Nagorno Karabakh.
The conflict ist not just about Nagorno Karabakh. Currently Azerbaijan depends on Georgian territory to bring its oil by pipeline to Turkey. The other alternative routes could be across northern Iran or Russia, but the imperial USA don’t allow this.
If Azerbaijan could break a corridor to Nakhchivan it would reach Turkey directly.
Armenia is a handicap for Azerbaijan, USA and Turkey as long as it cooperates with Russia and Iran. Breaking the ties with Russia and Iran would mean the end of Armenia. So the existence of Armenia within its current borders, together with Nagorno Karabakh is causing big trouble on the imperial strategy of the USA against Iran and Russia.
Russia and Iran will never let Armenia fall. Because of its small size Armenia less important and more vulnerable, but yet again it plays its historic role as a buffer state between big powers.
Azerbaijan offers the ceasefire, but then keeps attacking. There has not be enough pressure put on Baku. So the political battle here will be Turkey, the US and ISrael and maybe even NATO, between Russia and Iran supporting Armenia. And we have some of our general staff in quranatine now.
