Russia’s COVID-19 Cases Continue to Climb, Like the Rest of the World

Health Editor’s Note: Russia’s coronavirus cases are now the fifth largest in the world. Russia has been using its vaccine for several weeks as well as two other vaccines which Putin says are safe.  Despite the vaccines Russia has still had to ramp up lockdown measures for restaurants, entertainment venues, bars, and nightclubs with warnings of raids and fines for those who did not follow rules. Putin is now willing to cooperate on coronavirus vaccines with other countries. Please, please, please let the entire world get on the same page to make and use effective and safe COVID-19 vaccines…..Carol

  1. Here in Minsk Belarus my wife’s 83 year old father called hospital about making appointment (usually doctors make house calls within hour but this about some hospital treatment)
He was told all the doctors busy with corona virus patients, sorry!
Putin has announced Belarus will get first shot (pun) of their sputnik vaccine., After St Petersburg region
    gets it.
Haven’t seen any vaccine here yet, hospital workers will get it first.
It is two stage, one shot then another next day.
Putin has said they are willing to sell and give away the vaccine to other countries.
Masks just went mandatory in Belarus yesterday (will see if this true today only one outnifvteenty wore masks previous..
    I would count!)
56 doctors here still in jail for protesting against the once benevolent, now fascist dictator Lukashenko.
Lukashenko famous for declaring covid 19 only a mass hysteria, he guarantees no one in Belarus will die from it, drinking vodka, (!) driving tractors in fresh air kills it, masks are only for Sissy’s….etc etc..
    Lunatic…
No lockdowns here but has had mass testing, lots of contact tracing, and forced quarantines, in defiance of dictator.
Two taxi drivers I talked to who had virus; both said they spent a full month in hospital, treatments were trio of antibiotics, and something for the blood they both said.
Just a report from Belarus “White Russia”

    • Konehead, Are you hearing that people who have had the vaccine are having reactions? How many people do you think have received the vaccine so far?

  2. Yes, Carol. We have introduced a mode of wearing masks in public places. But not as hard as it was in the spring. The government is very careful about restrictions. The regions themselves have the power to set the degree of restrictions. Everyone understands that a lockdown will simply kill our economy and people will experience enormous difficulties. We have no resources for this. I live in a region such as your Florida, and over the summer 20 million Russians from all over the country took a vacation in my region. But we have no very tough measures. Otherwise, it will overload hospitals and there will be a shortage of doctors. Take care of yourself.
