Crafting a solid college essay can prove to be very tricky sometimes. As you know some colleges as part of their application process require you to write an essay.

Essay writing is no easy task as I have come to learn, especially if you also require to make a presentation. I knew I wasn’t good at that so I had someone do my PowerPoint  for me.

But we won’t be going into that, rather we will be looking at what it takes to create an outstanding college essay. You have the opportunity to explain why you chose that college and at the same time express your commitment and desire to be a part of that school.

So  do not be frightened as to whether or not you will impress the reader, but instead pick up your pen and be ready to show off your writing skills as you have been handed the opportunity to do what your grades cannot do and that is reveal your personality and let your voice be heard.

But before you jump in and start penning your heart away, you must know that there are certain features that make a great essay.

Of course you would want your essay to be quite powerful and bolster your chances of success but you just simply don’t have the ideas, fret not because we will be unravelling a few features of great essays and what it takes to create and deliver such essays.

  • A powerful introduction

Usually the most difficult part of a good essay is the beginning. A good essay should possess an attractive opener, something to get the reader on a hook. Be sure to brainstorm and come up with a topic that has the perfect combination of being eye catching and at the same time brief and to the point.

  • Good presentation

As important as the introduction is, a good presentation is sure to score you some points. Your writing style is important, it should be natural and also pertain to the subject matter. Your job is to present in the best possible manner.

  • Attention to detail

Everyone loves details and essays are no exception. They make your write-up more alluring and memorable. In order to make a strong impression you need to make your essay more detailed rather than beat about the bush.

  • Authenticity

One mistake people are fond of making is writing what they think the reader wants to hear, that will only put you on a long list of unsuccessful candidates. You need to be original in your creation, showcase who you are. Plagiarism must be avoided as there are means to discover it. Try to write with honesty as it will deliver the message in your own voice thereby making your essay more meaningful.

  • Good command of grammar and vocabulary

The best writers are usually identified by strong writing skills, showing ability to narrate a story with good use of diction and vocabulary.

Sentence structure and choice of words are good tools for conveying a powerful message. Try to diversify your vocabulary and avoid repetitive use of words. That does not mean you should go overboard with use of fancy words that may be irrelevant, remember simpler is better. Remember to cross-check for spelling errors too.

  • Distinctness

Another thing to be conscious of while creating your essay is what sets you apart. Your essay must distinguish from its hundred other counterparts all seeking for validation. Take some time to think about what makes you different and try to implement it into your writing.

  • A simple close

Alright you made a bold entrance, you must think you have to go out with a bang. Well the answer is no, as opposed to making a strong impression to catch your reader’s attention, your conclusion should be subtle, nothing more than a summary of all your above stated points. It should not contain new information and should be as concise as possible.

Writing a good essay is not limited to just those mentioned features but instead you are being treated to what your essay is supposed to contain if you are to be successful.
