The bombs Rwm Italia Spa factory, with registered office in Gedi (Brescia) and plant in Domusnovas (South Sardinia) – controlled by the German group Rheinmetall – announces an appeal against the Italian government for the revocation of export licenses to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
“We are facing an ‘to company’ provision, which in fact hits hard only Rwm Italia”, says the managing director, Fabio Sgarzi, after the notification received by UAMA of the revocation of the export authorizations of aircraft bombs issued between 2016 and 2018.
For years the plant had been in the crosshairs of pacifists who gave the “sarcastically” reward the leaders of the BlackRock investment fund with the Black Planet Award, among the reference shareholders of Rheinmetall as well as other corporations of the Weapons Lobby including the Italian industry specialized in aerospace and defense Leonardo spa, after a journalistic investigation had revealed that some of the bombs produced in Sardinia had been collected in Yemen, in the areas of massacres that had killed civilians and children.
The international reports, already reported by Gospa News in Weapons Lobby- 1 investigation, had explained that the components of the explosive devices were exported to the United Arab Emirates separately and only there were they assembled to be resold to Saudi Arabia where they were used against the rebels Houti Yemenis in a terrible civil war triggered by a claim for independence by this ethnic Shiite Islamic confession exacerbated by religious rivalry with the Saudis, of Sunni-Wahabi confession, who did not hesitate to send death row inmates to Al Qaeda to win an interminable conflict that began in 2015.
But the Italian company of the Reinmetall group is not going to suffer the blockade of exports by Italy. “Now – continues Fabio Sgarzi – those who find themselves bearing the consequences of all this, together with the company, are the hundreds of local workers and their families (100 direct operators operate in the Domusnovas plant alone, currently in Cig – Italian payroll subside – and others 100 indirect, ed).
The State first made growth possible, authorizing multi-year contracts, and then canceled everything, as if nothing had happened. And in the eighteen months of suspension the Government was totally inert, not taking any initiative to contain the very serious economic and employment damages deriving from its decisions “.
The Rwm assures workers and their families that it will do “the impossible to obtain the annulment of an unjust and punitive measure”.
It will also be interesting to see if BlackRock, among the shareholders of Rheinmetall, will also express its disappointment to the Italian government, being one of the important investors (which went from 0.86% to 1.13 with the BlackRock Fund Advisors and to 0.79 with BlackRock Investment Management) also of Leonardo spa, a 30.2% subsidiary of the State.
