Corruption: GOP Built a Fake Texas Power Grid Intended to Fail Poor and Minorities

Although the state produces the most electricity in the US, millions of its underprivileged residents found themselves in the cold and dark

VT: Time to pull our military bases, our key infrastructure out of Texas. Texas is heading for the kind of refugee problem we created in Syria but without the leadership of Assad.  Texas is run by real communists under the guise of the GOP.

  • “critical infrastructure” (read “white”) was exempt from the long-term blackouts, benefitting residents in the denser, more affluent areas that usually house those services, and disadvantaging underprivileged communities forced into neighborhoods where those resources are scarce.
  • In Dallas, skyscrapers lit up in festive reds and hot pinks for Valentine’s Day this long weekend, frivolously exhausting the city’s power
  • Houston’s office buildings likewise shone bright on Monday night while locals shivered in their homes.

More than a year into the coronavirus pandemic that has ravaged communities of color, the winter emergency represents yet another tragic example of how centuries of mistreatment, negligence and unjust policy decisions have left Black, brown and poor people in the United States disproportionately vulnerable whenever disaster strikes.

Guardian: As a brutal winter storm pummeled much of Texas, Cecilia Corral scoured social media posts written by fellow Austinites. From single mothers and their newborns, others in her city were freezing without heat or desperately needed food.

“It’s not just today. It’s not just this emergency. It’s every emergency,” said Natasha Harper-Madison, the temporary mayor of Austin. “These are the kinds of disparities that we see on a normal basis all the time. They just happen to be amplified because of the emergency.”  read more..

  1. Remember it wasn’t long ago, after the Hurricane, that if the poor wanted relief money they had to sign an agreement not to participate in BDS. That is forcing a loyalty to a foreign country to obtain tax payer funds intended for humanitarian aid during a crisis.
I agree also, we should pull our bases out of there, unless they can start treating the people with dignity. Federal funds have been withheld in the past for minor things such as drinking age. I have said for many years, I felt way safer hitchhiking across Guatemala, than I did in Texas. I was under constant threat of assault there. And we have the Fort Hood issue. I guess the Texas Guard will not be called up by Abbott unless a black person caused the outage.

  2. the USA government, doing what it does best, is inflicting an economy crippling assault on yet another nation. This time the target is the USA.
