One Down: Rush Limbaugh taught Republicans to Love an Angry, Racist Bully and Kosher Nostra Prince

Limbaugh had special rage for feminist women, who were castrating harpies, and Black people, who were lazy, intellectually unqualified, and inherently criminal

VT: The most brutal and genuinely unAmerican figure of our time until Donald Trump…racism, bile, dishonesty, sleaze…someone who genuinely despised America and, like Trump, worked year after year, almost tirelessly, to destroy the United States and to serve the Kosher Nostra

Not dead enough…

NY Mag: Donald Trump’s connection to the conservative movement to this day remains a subject of acrimonious dispute among the right-wing intelligentsia — some have embraced the 45th president as the movement’s authentic leader, while others regard him warily as an interloper, a New York Democrat who captured the party from the outside.

Nobody on the right ever disowned Rush Limbaugh. Throughout his career, they agreed he was a pure representative of conservative thought. George Bush courted him with an overnight visit to the Lincoln Bedroom and the presidential box at the 1992 Republican National Convention.

National Review declared him “Leader of the Opposition” in a 1993 cover story. “Limbaugh is not fringe,” gushed Washington Free Beacon editor Matthew Continetti. “His views fit in the conservative mainstream. He idolizes Buckley.”

The Republican Party considered Limbaugh’s influence on their 1994 midterm sweep so profound they made him an honorary member of the incoming congressional class. “I am in Congress today because of Rush Limbaugh,” testified Mike Pence, in 2001. Upon news of his death, George W. Bush called him “an indomitable spirit with a big heart.”

Bush himself may have a big heart. Limbaugh oozed bile. He did not merely characterize his targets as misguided, or stupid, or even selfish. He rendered them for his audience as dehumanized targets of rage. He had special rage for feminist women, who were castrating harpies, and Black people, who were lazy, intellectually unqualified, and inherently criminal.

The message he pounded home day after day was that minorities and women were seizing status and resources from white people and men, and that politics was a zero-sum struggle — and the victory would go to whichever side fought more viciously.  read more…

  1. Peggy Noonan wrote a great summary his career on the WSJ.
My takeaway (not using her words). Rather than fixating on his wrong views, this was his legacy. He became popular by catering to an underserved audience and then became enslaved to appeasing them and the Republican establishment. This destroyed any possibility for honesty and independence, the hosts how followed doubled down on catering to the same audience.

I noticed this about FOX news. They had a few honest dissenters from Nov 3 to Jan 6 but it angered their audience so much that it forced them to go back to being Stepford Wives and saying tripe that is obviously untrue just to appease the Red State crowd; green energy destroyed Texas..

  2. It’s reported that Limbaugh left an estate worth $600 million. That’s an unbelievable parlay for a radio DJ.

    • Can’t stand him but whoring does pay well. he was good a marketing himself. Hmm … it proves that narcissism is better than talent because you believe you are so entitled that you reach for the stars. A sportscaster with just a high school degree talked about himself like he was Ronald Reagan. He landed very large contracts for his syndicated shows, $30+ million a year. He sold books (spoke into a cassette recorder), did speaking engagements, etc.

Oh, and I bet he became a master of the pre-nuptial, wedding agreement, with 3 marriages AFTER he struck it rich, that would have broke him no matter how he earned his money.

BTW I started to love Michael Savage when he blew up one day and fumed, ‘what’s wrong with these so-called Conservatives who hate education so much, I’m proud of my PHD, I worked hard for it.’ I frequently disagree w/Mike Savage but at least I’m listening to a guy who thinks about things and does not dish out non-stop propaganda.
