Daily Beast: A group of 18 top researchers signed a letter published in the latest issue of the journal Science, calling for a new investigation into where and how the novel coronavirus originated, arguing that a satisfactory inquiry still has not been performed.

“Theories of accidental release from a lab and zoonotic spillover both remain viable,” the letter reads. “Knowing how COVID-19 emerged is critical for informing global strategies to mitigate the risk of future outbreaks.”
Robert Redfield, former President Donald Trump’s CDC director, has said—without evidence—that he believes the virus escaped from a lab in Wuhan, China. For its part, the Chinese government has engaged in similarly baseless speculation, blaming the U.S. Army for creating the virus.

Mainstream researchers have largely come out in favor of the theory that COVID-19 originated in animals and spilled over into humans naturally, although hard evidence of any sort has thus far remained elusive.
The new letter makes no assertions or claims one way or the other, only that more research is very necessary.
“[I]n this time of unfortunate anti-Asian sentiment in some countries, we note that at the beginning of the pandemic, it was Chinese doctors, scientists, journalists, and citizens who shared with the world crucial information about the spread of the virus—often at great personal cost,” it concludes. “We should show the same determination in promoting a dispassionate science-based discourse on this difficult but important issue.”

On 30 December 2019, the Program for Monitoring Emerging Diseases notified the world about pneumonia of unknown cause in Wuhan, China (1). Since then, scientists have made remarkable progress in understanding the causative agent, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), its transmission, pathogenesis, and mitigation by vaccines, therapeutics, and non-pharmaceutical interventions.
Yet more investigation is still needed to determine the origin of the pandemic. Theories of accidental release from a lab and zoonotic spillover both remain viable. Knowing how COVID-19 emerged is critical for informing global strategies to mitigate the risk of future outbreaks.
In May 2020, the World Health Assembly requested that the World Health Organization (WHO) director-general work closely with partners to determine the origins of SARS-CoV-2 (2). In November, the Terms of Reference for a China–WHO joint study were released (3). The information, data, and samples for the study’s first phase were collected and summarized by the Chinese half of the team; the rest of the team built on this analysis.
Although there were no findings in clear support of either a natural spillover or a lab accident, the team assessed a zoonotic spillover from an intermediate host as “likely to very likely,” and a laboratory incident as “extremely unlikely” [(4), p. 9]. Furthermore, the two theories were not given balanced consideration.
Only 4 of the 313 pages of the report and its annexes addressed the possibility of a laboratory accident (4). Notably, WHO Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus commented that the report’s consideration of evidence supporting a laboratory accident was insufficient and offered to provide additional resources to fully evaluate the possibility (5).
As scientists with relevant expertise, we agree with the WHO director-general (5), the United States and 13 other countries (6), and the European Union (7) that greater clarity about the origins of this pandemic is necessary and feasible to achieve.
We must take hypotheses about both natural and laboratory spillovers seriously until we have sufficient data. A proper investigation should be transparent, objective, data-driven, inclusive of broad expertise, subject to independent oversight, and responsibly managed to minimize the impact of conflicts of interest.
Public health agencies and research laboratories alike need to open their records to the public. Investigators should document the veracity and provenance of data from which analyses are conducted and conclusions drawn so that analyses are reproducible by independent experts. Full report here

I hope, at least, they find the true color of the virus. It’s never the same when shown.
All those really bright folks should try reading VT. Of course a high tide raises all ships, including the rest of us.
It doesn’t matter where it was let loose, or how it was engineered. It’s way past obvious at this point, it is a massive multifaceted change agent operation meant to facilitate many objectives, none of which are beneficial to the vast majority.
By the same logic, the smallpox-infested blankets that the Plains Indians were given back in the 19th Century were just to keep them warm in the wintertime.
Of course the war pigs have always loved the thought of bio and chemical weapons because they provide a ton of cover and time to flee. The big issue is, they cannot be put back into the box. It takes a high degree of narcissism to unleash it. So follow the narcissist.
You do not have to be a scientist, to examine the potential origin, but you will need to be a good one to prove where it came from, and you would need unlimited access to all facilities in the world capable of modifying it. I say neither , because all signs and simple observable things point to non-accidental release. So, Britain has the biggest beef with China just having been kicked out. With Trump being willing to do lots of stupid narcissistic stuff, they make a likely pair of co-conspirators. Britains right wing was very pro Trump. And they are known to be particularly nasty and narcissistic.
The Russians agree with you as they accused UK’s Porton Down as being the lab which created Covid19 back in february 2020. The story was picked up by the Daily Mail in march 2020 in an attempt to discredit it as a conspiracy theory. They were the ones to release it at the Wuhan Military Games in october 2019 in order to attack China while targeting the special elite forces participating in those games. The UK media started their disinformation campaign concerning the Wuhan lab as early as january 2020 to deflect the blame and smear China at the same time.
However, I doubt Trump was in on it. He was just ill-prepared when disaster struck although he had been warned since 2017 of an impending pandemic. There were many pandemic simulations run throughout his administration and they all unanimously came up with the same conclusion: the US wasn’t prepared for a pandemic.
Trump deployed a mitigation thwart team to actively prevent mitigation. This was done in tandem with Britain , and herd immunity was their shared hypothesis, which they knew was wrong. Britain/Israel was the last country to be cut off air travel to the US. Tactical moves to diminish the capabilities of the mitigation were done before any hint of the virus, by Trumps admin. He is at minimum complicit in homicide. he is the perfect stooge, who would be willing to do something like this. Starting with Cambridge Analytica, Trump and the UK have been tied at the hip. Brexit, China Trump and Johnson all a package. harry moving here with new US bride also. So many do not understand how Monarchy works.
