Biden targets children, spouses in visa crackdown on world’s villains
[ Editor’s Note: I have mixed feelings on this, mainly because it seems to be an easy way for a government to say it is sending a message that even rich criminals can’t roam the planet with their ill gotten gains. Really?
What does that do to discourage such uber criminals from being criminals? They will always find places that are happy to take their money. The real name of the game is prosecuting international criminals to stop their operations, close them down and seize their assets to fund continuing the effort.
If you want to send a real ticket to the hoods, that is the tool. But there would be a mountain of hurdles against doing that, as such is the case with any major changes.
But the Uber rich that move around a lot can often have close relationships with national intelligence agencies, partly to have ‘friends in high places’ if some country would try to put the squeeze on them. Ihor Kolomoyskiy and family of Ukraine fame are stars of the Politico story below.
And for those who have a drop of Jewish blood, the ‘ant-semitism’ six shooter would be quickly pulled and begin firing away. Think of people like Robert Maxwell, Rupert Murdoch, and even down to the likes of Jeffery Epstein and Maxwell’s daughter Ghislaine.
Maxwell, when he died, while swimming around his whale of a boat, was exposed for looting his publishing empire’s pension fund of hundreds of millions of pounds, causing the liquidation of all of his holdings.
This made me wonder about the press mention in regards to a bail hearing that Ghislaine had something in the range of $25 million available for bail. I have not heard a word about where that might have come from, and for doing what.
Guantanamo, as Gordon recently wrote, only has six confirmed Al Qaeda people there, the others just low level schmucks rounded up for what seems to have been never ending torture training classes.
Gitmo could be put to much better use on the uber rich criminals, and the torturing could still continue on the grounds of being a deterrent, with the video sales, live and downloads, funding its operations. Thus ends my cheery missive for today… Jim W. Dean ]

Since taking office, the administration has eagerly embraced visa bans as a means to punish bad actors overseas for everything from alleged corruption to human rights abuses.
…“A lot of these higher-level people, they send their kids to Harvard, they buy property in Manhattan, they vacation in California,” said Gary Kalman, who directs the U.S. office of Transparency International. “They stole a lot of money, and they want to live a good life.”
…In mid-June, for instance, the State Department announced that it was imposing visa restrictions on former Namibian government officials Bernhardt Esau and Sakeus Shanghala, alleging they were involved in “significant corruption.” The department went on to name the immediate family members whom the ban would also affect.
…The Kolomoyskyy case was an early and high-profile example…“The difference is huge. The impact is huge,” Daria Kaleniuk, executive director of the Anti-Corruption Action Center in Ukraine, said of the public humiliation factor.
Based on her group’s sources and observation of votes, among other things, “right after this decision, people, specifically members of Parliament who were influenced by Kolomoyskyy, they started to limit relations with him and influence by him,” Kaleniuk said.
