Truck driver in ICU wishes he’d been vaccinated — but he listened to conservative talk radio

Middle Tennessee truck driver Joe Gammon, 45, has been receiving ECMO therapy at Ascension Saint Thomas West since mid-August, allowing his blood to be oxygenated by a machine by his bed. The life-support is giving his lungs time to heal from COVID, which he contracted in July. He says now getting vaccinated is a no-brainer. Blake FarmerWPLN New

  1. This guy’s response to the media sounds very scripted or at least edited. Trucker on his deathbed talking like a college professor. OK.

  2. Truck drivers have notoriously bad health and this guy is no exception. He obviously already had some serious co-morbidity issues. I’m almost 70 and spent 24 years in the 70’s and 80’s working as a humanitarian volunteer in some of the poorest SE Asian countries such as Laos and Cambodia. I was there on the border of Thailand and Cambodia when the Viets invaded in 1979 and was working on the border of Thailand and Malaysia during the peak of the communist insurgency. several of my co-workers were killed and I was shot at and held at gunpoint several times. During my time there I contracted streptoccoccus, whooping cough, hepatitus A, typhoid, dengue fever, septicemia (almost had my left leg amputated), suffered multiple food poisoning incidents, I was involved in one bus crash, a motorcycle accident in Bangkok and rolled a car once on a rural road. But my own immune system was my best friend through it all. That immune system is still working today. Why would I want to stuff that immune system up with a cocktail of mRNA innoculations that may or may not have serious long-term consequences for my body and quality of life?

    • Taking the shot is supposed to be a service to others not just yourself. But, your assessment of the personal risk has to be dealt with. BTW nice to hear from an Ugly American that wasn’t carrying an M16 in SE Asia. Thanks for your service.

  3. So, if there is any suspicion at all, that corvis could be a bio-weapon or even something that was known, it stands to reason, the first thing that would be done is securing a antoi-dotus.

Thus, the virus is the bad guy, and the vaccine is the good guy. Anyone thwarting mitigation should be viewed with FAR more scrutiny than any vaccine. The Republican Governor of Maryland felt strongly enough threatened that he used NG troops to protect a shipment of tests being flown in, FROM federal troops under the Trump admin. That is all anyone needs to know. Go directly to YT and watch Bob Newhart Stop It.
