Election Officials Gain Defenders against Trump Republicans Bent On Corrupting Democracy

from MSNBC, Rachael Maddow

[ Editor’s Note: This is a breath of fresh air, as it has been disappointing to see these election workers abused like they have been, and here we are a year plus later and we see no visible law enforcement effort to charge the death threat Trumpers.

When key election officials find themselves being railroaded out of their positions via politically motivated false claims, they will have access to free legal advice and assistance from the Elections Officials Legal Defense Network.

This is great news on several levels, as it hopefully will inspire others to create similar defense groups to take on the Trump goon intimidation squads.

And the step after that, which is already percolating in the January 6th committee, is their charge to consider legislation efforts to make sure that a Trump style January Insurrection can never happen again.

Anything real toward that effort would have to include being able to have law enforcement bust up false election claims as soon as they show their ugly heads.

The non-stop claims of a stolen election, where all purported evidence was rejected by courts, is a permanent threat against democracy that must be fixed.

DC Judge Mehta is hearing a case today where he has already publicly stated that he feels the Trump ‘Steal’ propaganda directly led to January 6… Jim W. Dean ]

Bob Bauer, co-chair of the Election Official Legal Defense Network, talks with Rachel Maddow about the rise in threats against nonpartisan election workers and the work being done to bolster their legal protections and to brace for 2024.

The Election Official Legal Defense Network (EOLDN) is a project of the nonpartisan, nonprofit Center for Election Innovation & Research. EOLDN connects licensed, qualified, pro bono attorneys with election administrators who need advice or assistance.

Election workers from all over the country, at the state and local level, can contact EOLDN via this website or by phone (1-877-313-5210) at any time, to request to be connected to a lawyer who can help them, at no cost.

This service is available regardless of the election official’s political affiliation, or whether they work in a blue or red state or county.

”Election officials face an increasing wave of state laws subjecting them to criminal penalties for performing their professional duties, while at the same time facing threats of violence to themselves and their families.

This comes in the wake of the 2020 election and its aftermath, despite that election being the most secure and transparent election in American history, with record turnout, during a global pandemic.

These attacks on election officials, the referees in democracy, must be fought and election officials need to know they are not alone. The Election Officials Legal Defense Network will provide these public servants with the advice and protection they need, at no cost.”
