Three retired generals: The Military Must PrepareNow for a 2024 Insurrection

from the Washington Post

[ Editor’s Note: I have to admit that I thought we were beyond seeing anything like this from the military brass, with the rationale being that they would have stepped in sooner.

That said, the progress on the January 6 Committee has given them a solid basis where they see their intervention to stop the next coup should be, but which they thankfully lay out for us below. It seems it was a bridge too far for them to take without the recent public testimony.

I see no half measures, the kind you see when such a move is being done for show, to cover asses, as these generals are recommending a proactive screening to identify and deal with threats now.

One of the best lines that I never expected to hear from the conservative military general command was, “But the military cannot wait for elected officials to act.”

They are correct. The slowness we are witnessing with the endless legal delays in the courts, fake news media manipulation, and fundraising in the open for Insurrection support is a recipe for disaster. A slow defensive response favors the attacker. Any junior year West Point cadet can tell you that.

I have watched in disgust as virtually all the major vet organization have aided and abetted the coup plotters with sympathetic support, even if through inaction. This has surprised me, as military courts have a long tradition of court martials for ‘actions not taken that should have been’… Jim W. Dean ]

The first people who had their hands up were Congressional staffers

First published December 18, 2021

As we approach the first anniversary of the deadly insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, we — all of us former senior military officials — are increasingly concerned about the aftermath of the 2024 presidential election and the potential for lethal chaos inside our military, which would put all Americans at severe risk.

In short: We are chilled to our bones at the thought of a coup succeeding next time.

The signs of potential turmoil in our armed forces are there. On Jan. 6, a disturbing number of veterans and active-duty members of the military took part in the attack on the Capitol. More than 1 in 10 of those charged in the attacks had a service record.

A group of 124 retired military officials, under the name “Flag Officers 4 America,” released a letter echoing Donald Trump’s false attacks on the legitimacy of our elections.

…Under such a scenario, it is not outlandish to say a military breakdown could lead to civil war.

…Trump’s acting defense secretary, Christopher C. Miller, testified that he deliberately withheld military protection of the Capitol before Jan. 6.

…With the country still as divided as ever, we must take steps to prepare for the worst.

…But the military cannot wait for elected officials to act. In addition, all military branches must undertake more intensive intelligence work at all installations. The goal should be to identify, isolate and remove potential mutineers.

  1. Remember, Jim, this is the same military that stood down on 9/11 and let it happen, the same military that fought the 9/11 forever wars, all for Israel. They have bankrupted the USA both financially and morally, just as they were designed to do. My guess is that they will stand down when Bannon-style Christo-fascism comes to the USA. To paraphrase Sinclair Lewis, it will be wearing a MAGA cap and carrying an assault rifle.

  2. Any military of this size and budget is susceptible to numerous ideologies, particularly when religion gains a foothold as it clearly has done. It is the stated goal of most religions to usurp the civil governance of any country they inhabit. Certainly the 3 Abrahamics.

The most obvious answers to these dangers, are ignored. We are terrible at psyops, and have been completely taken over by them. Tax the churches, and reduce the force by 80%. We are in a time of massive abundance, and war is not necessary. It is harmful to our own security, and that of the entire world, to finance such a monster that can break its chain so easily.

  3. The big test is coming. The insurrectionist have to be burned down to the ground. The Trump plan, to which the Repubs have already surrendered, is that their are too many, which I would agree is too big a problem, especially when law enforcement is infiltrated, too. And I fear that Garland is married to an out of date stratedy, of keeping investigations quiet. For some time I understand, to not tip people off to destroy evidence. But we are hearing of no raids to protect evidence. When someone gets called before the grand jury, certainly word will spread around the Trumper world. The government needs a lot more manpower to deal with this and I don’t even see it on anyone in importances list.

    • The thing that always comes to my mind is, everyone knows there is a hidden (but becoming less so) agenda behind all policies, agencies, bureaus, politicians; all actors on and behind the political stage serve undeclared masters.
And all chains of command in all the varied departments ultimately end “up” serving those same hidden “masters.”

And considering how outcomes always seem to shake out to a “generally” unforeseen conclusion, which is surely by design, trying to gage the wind, can wind up being an exercise in futility. 😫

    • “serving those same hidden “masters.” This is true sir, but with the scale of what we are going through there, those with shit to hide are worried. The insurrection scandal could be the domino that tips more going over. Notice the timing in the three generals coming out today, stating the obvious, that sedition plotters must be hunted down now, and not left in place to do their dirty deeds. The genius of their coming forward now is who is going to publicly, in the military, challenge them, as is ‘we need to stay out of it as it is a political matter, etc.” Anybody that does that exposes themselves as an Insurrection supporter.

    • Jim, I guess there is always an outside chance that by some providential array of circumstances and events, Freedom sees its last long-shot opportunity to stay alive, and acts on it.
