Guardian: Four inmates at an Arkansas jail have filed a lawsuit against the facility and its doctor after they said they were unknowingly prescribed ivermectin to treat Covid-19 as a form of “medical experimentation” despite US health officials warning that the anti-parasitic drug should not be used for that purpose.

The Arkansas chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union filed the lawsuit on behalf of the men last week against Washington county jail, the Washington county sheriff, Tim Helder, and jail physician Dr Robert Karas. Last August, Helder revealed that the drug had been prescribed to patients with Covid-19.

“The lawsuit charges the defendants for administering ivermectin to incarcerated individuals without prior informed consent as to the nature, contents, or potential side effects of the drug,” the ACLU said in a statement last week.

Gary Sullivan, legal director of the ACLU of Arkansas, condemned Helder’s actions, saying: “No one – including incarcerated individuals – should be deceived and subject to medical experimentation. Sheriff Helder has a responsibility to provide food, shelter, and safe, appropriate care to incarcerated individuals.”

“Plaintiffs ingested incredibly high doses of a drug that credible medical professionals, the FDA, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), all agree is not an effective treatment against Covid-19, and that if given in large doses is dangerous for humans,” the lawsuit said.  Read more…

  1. To Adrian, if they were dead, the lawsuit would be on behalf of the families. To Mr. Duff, please do not take offence, but ask yourself if having a horse at the head of this article is fair and balanced reporting. Ivermectin has saved probably many millions of people from the scourge of river blindness. It is also used against ringworm and many other parsites. You know this, you have been to Africa. Does it work against COVID-19? I dont know, but would it hurt to try what I read they did in Uruguay – deworm the whole population, and see if it helps? You told us COVID-19 is a bioweapon. Is the Pfizer gene therapy the antidote? If so, why does it not work? Is the Omicron variant a biovaccine released by “the good guys” to end the “pandemic”?

  2. Gary Chambers is running for Senate in La. One thing he points out is, since 2010, 7.3 million people in the US have been arrested for pot. The will of the people is usurped when such an overwhelming number of voters do not wish to have pot smoking a jailable offense.
The issue with covid and jails , further highlights, that non-violent crimes are not worthy of incarceration.

  3. What the article it does not say if treatment it worked or did not on that four inmates and they did not contracted it or they were cured after get it….

    • Its anecdotal unless thousands are studied. And it is beside the point. Inmates should not be experimented on without consent. That is a full stop right there.
