(Boise, Idaho) – On Tuesday, a group of antiwar activists confronted former President Barack Obama during a campaign rally in Detroit, Michigan. You can watch the video of the interaction here.

During his speech in support of Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s reelection, President Obama was interrupted by both a woman and a man decrying how the crisis in Ukraine was exacerbated and Russian-American relations hollowed out under his administration.

Their comments included “You overthrew Ukraine in 2014.”; “Tell us about your plan for nuclear war with Russia.”; “You’re going to kill us with nuclear war.”; “Mr. President, there are more people that are going to get hurt if we go into nuclear war right now.”; “Will you tell the truth before the world walks into World War III?” Both individuals were shouted out by the Democratic crowd booing and chanting “Obama.”



“To protect the War Party, the corporate press will pretend that history does not exist. But there were two decades of failed policies under Republicans like George W. Bush and Democrats like Barack Obama and Joe Biden that have brought this country to the edge of World War III,” said Sgt. Dan McKnight, chairman of Bring Our Troops Home.

“It was President Obama’s decision in 2014 to orchestrate the overthrow of the Yanukovych government, which triggered the Russian seizure of Crimea and now more than eight years of brutal fighting in eastern Ukraine.”

“President Obama tells these protestors to sit down and shut up because ‘There is a process that we set up in our democracy.’ Yes, Mr. President, that process is called Article I, Section 8 of the United States Constitution and requires a declaration of war by Congress before our government can make war on another country.

It’s part of your oath that you declined to follow when you illegally made war on both Libya and Syria,” continued Sgt. McKnight. “When members of Congress aren’t permitted to vote on a measure as important as war and peace, and the people’s voices aren’t permitted in the Capitol, what choice to do they have besides walking up to our powerbrokers directly and telling them they don’t support these imperial foreign policies?”

Sgt. Dan McKnight is a thirteen-year veteran of the U.S. military, with service in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves, U.S. Army, and Idaho Army National Guard, including an eighteen-month combat tour in Afghanistan from 2005 to 2007. He founded Bring Our Troops Home, a national organization of veterans of the Global War on Terror, in 2019.

“I’m encouraged by the number of veterans and other activists who have let people like Barack Obama, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, and Elizabeth Warren know that the American people do not want to be the world’s piggy bank handing out limitless foreign aid, and we don’t want to be marched into a nuclear war over a border dispute in Eastern Europe when our own borders at home remain unprotected,” Sgt. McKnight concluded.

    • Ain´t he´s fault but the one´s who think they are enlightened enough to choose this kind of people in to power! The one´s who let themselves be fooled by nice word´s like “yes we can” without aknowledging their guilt in the process of wipping out so many millions of life´s. The one´s that constantly choose them without thinking on their responsability of being fooled over and over again by any politician that seems to defend he´s own egoistic desire and point of vew! One can be fooled once or twice but so many times?
