If the US and its allies supply Ukraine with heavy tanks, the consequences for Kiev will only be negative, while it will not seriously impact Russia’s military operation in the country, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov claimed on Friday.

His comments came as top defense officials from Washington and its partners convened at America’s Ramstein Air Base in Germany to discuss further military aid for Ukraine. The US Department of Defense previously announced that one of its top goals for the meeting was to convince Berlin to provide its Leopard 2 tanks to Kiev, or at least allow other countries, such as Poland and Finland, to deliver their own German-made tanks to Ukraine.

However, the ministers failed to reach a unanimous decision on the matter, according to German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius. Berlin has long expressed a hesitancy to allow allied nations to send Leopards to Kiev and is reportedly waiting for the US to send its own Abrams tanks first. The Pentagon, however, declined to include M1 Abrams tanks in its latest package to Ukraine.

US wants to ‘unlock’ German tanks for Ukraine – DoD

Last week, the British government vowed to deliver 14 Challenger 2 main battle tanks to Kiev.

Peskov stated that these supplies will only create more problems for Ukraine and ultimately fail to change anything regarding Russia’s progress on the battlefield.

The spokesman cautioned against exaggerating “the importance of such supplies in terms of their ability to change something,” and explained that “all these tanks will require both maintenance and repairs, and so on,” thus creating more challenges for Kiev’s troops.

Russia has repeatedly insisted that any weapons sent to Ukraine will only serve to prolong the conflict and lead to more unnecessary bloodshed. As for the tanks, Peskov stated earlier this week that if they end up being delivered to Ukraine, they “will burn like the rest” of the Western weapons.

  1. The estimated cost of an M1 Abrahams tank in 1999 was $6.2 million. Adjusted for inflation, that would be around $8 million today. However, there are reports that out-of-date, or battle-damaged Abrahams are to be repaired or retro-fitted to upgrade them to the A2 configuration. It was also reported, that M1’s currently in stock are to be stripped of the latest technology to prevent it from falling into Russian hands. At any rate, these tanks are not sitting on the shelf somewhere, just waiting for shipment to the front lines. It’s going to take months for any of these to reach the front lines, assuming they survive Russian attacks on the supply lines. It’s a fool’s errand, but that’s what Washington specializes in. After the war is over, the most lucrative business in Ukraine is going to be the scrap metal business.

  2. There might be war anyway because the US and NATO Jews will get Zelensky and his fellow Jews out of Ukraine and form a Ukrainian government outside of Ukraine which they will continue to support. Jews don’t like to lose to the goys.

  3. This is really ridiculous. Last week in a political talk-show of the socialist-state-tv a Bundeswehr expert comitted, that the Bundeswehr has, at the moment only 6 tank-batallions, which means more or less 400 heavy battle-tanks, Leo II. But this exists only on paper. Each batallion has only 10 fully functional tanks, means 60. The same is to mention about the German airforce. The Eurofighter is much better than any F-16. But the German Luftwaffe has, with luck, only a maximum of 60 planes combat-ready. Fighting boots on the ground the Bundeswehr has maybe 10k, all spreaded on the planet by the will of the cowboy-masters. The Frenchfrie Legion l’etrangers has only 10k men, too. The Brits had difficulties to collect 11k men during the Falklands-war. The Russians fight on the wrong front. With 1 mio. men, and 5k battle-tanks they are in 2 weeks in Brest.

    • We can all agree that the main goal of all these fruitless efforts are to keep the Ukrainian money laundry operating. War makes the Washington elites and their war contractor buddies rolling in cash.
